Chapter 26 - chapter 26 When war knocks

The east perimeter erupted in sound.

Gunfire shattered the night, bullets striking steel gates and concrete walls. Floodlights flared to life, exposing masked figures pouring in like a living tide.

LOS Empire had come prepared.

Storm took command instantly. "Positions! Cover the flank—don't let them split us!"

Danger moved without thinking, instincts taking over. His body remembered chaos. Remembered pain.

This—this was something he understood.

He took down two attackers in quick succession, moving fast, precise. Every shot clean. Every movement sharp.

"Left side!" Shooter yelled.

Danger pivoted, firing again.

Somewhere behind him, Lady Anna watched from the balcony, eyes cold, calculating. She didn't flinch at the blood. She never did.

"Push them back," she ordered through the comms. "No mercy."

Storm heard it—and hesitated.

"No civilians," he repeated firmly. "Stick to the perimeter."

The order clashed in the air.

Danger heard both.

He chose Storm.

---

Inside the slave quarters, the sound of gunfire reached Curly like a physical blow.

Angela screamed as the lights flickered.

"What's happening?" Micka demanded.

"LOS Empire," Sony said grimly. "They're inside."

Curly's heart pounded. "We need to hide."

Before anyone could move, the door burst open.

Michael stood there, weapon drawn, eyes sharp.

"Follow me," he said calmly. "Now."

They didn't argue.

---

Back at the perimeter, Danger spotted a figure aiming from the shadows—too close to the slave wing.

"No," he muttered.

He broke formation.

Storm saw him go. "Danger—!"

Too late.

Danger reached the attacker just as the gun fired.

He took the hit in the shoulder.

Pain exploded through him, but he didn't stop. He knocked the man down, disarming him brutally.

Storm reached him seconds later. "You're hit."

"I'm fine," Danger growled.

Storm grabbed him. "You broke formation."

Danger met his gaze. "He was aiming at the quarters."

Storm went still.

Above them, Lady Anna's voice cut through the chaos. "Fall back. Let them retreat."

LOS Empire was already withdrawing.

They had what they came for.

A message.

---

Later, in the aftermath, Danger sat alone in the medical wing, blood seeping through the bandage.

Lady Anna entered.

"You disobeyed orders," she said flatly.

"I saved lives," he replied.

She studied him with unreadable eyes. "You saved slaves."

His jaw tightened. "They're people."

Silence stretched between them.

Finally, she turned away. "You're still alive. Don't mistake that for approval."

She left.

Danger closed his eyes, pain throbbing deeper than the wound.

Outside, Curly stood frozen in the corridor, having heard everything.

For the first time, she understood something clearly:

The real war inside WAN Empire

was not against LOS Empire.

It was against Lady Anna herself.
