Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 - Keeper

I stepped through the threshold.Once inside, I looked up at the young man who had pulled me across. He was divine, breathtaking—as if he were a god himself.

I gazed around the strange place; there was no dust, no reflection, only pure, overwhelming light.

"Woww," I murmured, stopping short in awe.

I tried to gaze deeper into the void, to understand where I was. It wasn't a new world, nor was it heaven.

[I can see the cascade of my sensory memory, every event of my own life.]

My past began flickering by in vivid, overwhelming glimpses. Panic seized me; I couldn't breathe.

Feeling the sudden deprivation of oxygen, I slipped my hand from his and covered my mouth.Suddenly, the man's voice echoed through the space:

"I am the keeper of your life."

"The keeper?" I manage to choke out, my voice sounding thin and distant.

"Does that mean…. Am I dead?"

"Not dead"

His voice resonating not in my ears, but directly in my mind.

"But you have stepped outside the river, You are looking at the water from the shore."

I looked back at the mirror - the portal I had just crossed. It was no longer a clear window. From this side it looked like a heavy, leaden door, sealed shut against the world I had left behind.

Panic flare me again, sharper than before.

" I told them I'd be back by morning, I ….promised"

"Morning is the concept for those still drifting with the current. Here, there is only the now" The man said while turning his head, his in distinct features softening into something resembling pity.
