Chapter 12 - Ended Before It Even Began

[Summer, Year 312]

"HEY YOU!" The same older boy who called Yuki a little punk came stomping towards her.

'Aw geez.' Yuki sighed, realizing that there will be a ruckus soon. Very soon.

Everyone around turned to the loud, well dressed boy with his butler trailing behind him like a dog trying to catch up to its owner.

"How the hell did you get ranked 14th?! Higher than me? Does that make any sense? Answer me!!" He roared, his face turning redder than a tomato.

His butler rushed up to him, holding his arm in a hurry.

"Young master, plea—"

"Shut up!" The boy pushed his butler away, fuming.

"...What's wrong with you?" Yuki finally spoke.

"Hah. You're a commoner aren't you? There must be a mistake. They probably confused your name with someone else's. How else could you be ranked so high??" The boy gritted his teeth.

"Do you really think Randanolux Academy would make such a mistake? Cool your head and think for once in your life." Yuki rebutted.

"How dare you!!!! You! I demand a duel!!" The boy threw down his handkerchief on the ground, right in front of Yuki.

"I refuse." Yuki said coldly.

"Hmph. Scared?" The boy provoked.

"No, I don't want to waste my energy on someone like you." Yuki replied.

"Well, you better be ready to fight right now!" The boy said, drawing his fancy sword with a red gem embedded in the middle of the top of the handle, which sparkled beautifully under the lights.

He lunged at Yuki, not caring about whether or not his opponent had a weapon.

"What the hell?" Yuki dodged to her left, the sharp sword cutting a few strands of her hair.

"Tch. Try to dodge this then!" The boy activated something in the sword, causing the red gem to glow a deep red, engulfing the entire blade with flames.

Alerted, Yuki ran towards the crowd of people, aware that she cannot block the flames.

"Now you're running? Too late now!!!" The boy snickered, slashing his sword diagonally, creating a crescent of flames to form, directly aimed at Yuki.

Yuki, seeing the flames reflected in the marble walls, dodge once again.

'What was that?! What weapon did he use for him to have the ability to generate flames that easily???' Yuki's eyes widened in shock.

With no control, the flames went straight to the crowd of both participants and parents who were terrified.

Before the flames could reach the bystanders, an old man appeared before them, using a shield to block the danger.

"Stop this at once." The old man spoke with a voice of authority.

"Who the fuck are you? Get out of the way! I need to teach this little punk a lesson!!" The boy yelled, enraged by the fact that he could not land any hits on Yuki.

"Who let this rude kid in our prestigious academy?" The old man sighed.

"I apologize, headmaster." The butler bowed.

"Anyone who disturbs the examination process shall be rejected immediately from stepping foot into Randanolux Academy. You, and you. Please leave." The headmaster pointed at Yuki and the boy.

Realizing he could not get away with this matter, the boy's face paled.

"Please rethink your choice! The results were so bizarre I was only teaching this commoner a lesson!" The boy refuted.

'This old man sure doesn't care about who the victim is. What a sh*tty headmaster.' Yuki thought.

"If you're going to kick me out of my right to continue the examinations here merely because of a fight I did not begin, I don't want to remain here. A prestigious academy with an incompetent headmaster who cannot tell right from wrong? No thank you." Yuki boldly said, taking her leave.

The headmaster and bystanders simply watched the girl leave quietly whereas the boy snickered behind his hand.

Getting an education from a corrupted system was not something Yuki desired. She wanted to get an education and learn more about this world, yes, but not from people who cannot make fair decisions. An unjust school system? Peers who get in because of their strong family backgrounds? To Yuki, Randanolux Academy seems more fitting for rich, privileged kids, which she is not one of.
