The heavy wooden door to Adrian's room lay slightly ajar, but the space had no sign of Adrian in it. Though he ran into Reginald before getting there, he had mentioned that Adrian was currently occupied in another room.
Relieved to have escaped his little secret, found out, and having a moment to breathe, Ryan slumped into the massive bed at the center of the room. He let himself sink into its soft coziness, inhaling the soothing, sweet scent he had missed all week long.
He pulled the edge of the bedspread to his nose, holding it there longer than necessary, eyes fixed to the room's wide space, which was unnervingly quiet. The walls acted as a muffled soundproofing against the chaotic noise of the video game downstairs and the high-spirited laughter of Mike and Dylan, who had returned from the garage a few seconds ago.
