Episode 4: The Wait is Over
Meanwhile, as Kaito was changing his sweater in the locker room, the image of the child—and those black veins—came to his mind. He frowned.
Kaito (to himself):
"That child… I hope nothing goes wrong."
He stepped out and walked toward the common lounge where everyone else was. The child was sitting there. Sora and Haruto were watching Kaito closely with serious expressions, while the only one not taking things seriously—Doctor Mitsuni—was grinning at him.
Kaito didn't understand.
Kaito:
"What are you all staring at again? What happened?"
Haruto replied with a grin.
Haruto:
"You might've narrowed your field of vision from frowning so much."
Kaito looked confused.
Kaito:
"What are you talking about, Haruto? You've completely lost it—"
Suddenly, he felt something hard hit his head. As he tried to turn around, he found himself crashing into the wall.
Sora stood there angrily, one leg raised, glaring at Kaito in her mini skirt.
Kaito:
"Ah— hey! What did you do?!"
Sora cut him off.
Sora:
"Idiot! Where's the blanket?! The kid is shivering—are you blind?!"
The child let out a small giggle.
Child:
"Um… it's okay. You don't have to. I can manage."
Haruto sighed and looked at the child.
Haruto:
"Oh, come on… don't worry. I expected this, but this time it's my fault. I didn't prepare a backup plan."
Kaito tried to stand up.
Kaito:
"Alright. I'll get it."
He soon returned with a green blanket decorated with bunny patterns and gently draped it over the child.
The child smiled faintly.
Child:
"Thank you."
Haruto then spoke.
Haruto:
"So, buddy… tell us. What were you doing there? Where's your family? And first of all—what's your name?"
The small smile on the child's face vanished instantly.
Kaito, Sora, and Doctor Mitsuni exchanged glances. Haruto continued.
Haruto:
"Don't worry. We're here to protect you. But for that, you need to tell us everything you remember."
Sora:
"There's nothing to be afraid of."
(Turning to the eccentric doctor.)
"Except for the crazy doctor, of course."
Doctor Mitsuni reacted immediately.
Dr. Mitsuni:
"Heeey! How dare you talk like that—wait…"
His expression softened.
"Ohhh, 'Crazy Doctor,' huh? Hearing a compliment from you is really spoiling me, dear."
Sora and Haruto laughed and turned back to the child. The child then looked at Kaito. Kaito was surprised, though he didn't show it—and he didn't even know why.
The child began to speak.
Child:
"Actually… I—"
Everyone focused on him. At that moment, thunder roared.
BOOOOM
A man's voice echoed.
Man:
"Hey!"
Everyone jumped and turned around. It was Taro the cook.
Taro:
"So… who's this kid?"
Kaito shot him a sharp look.
Kaito:
"Taro, it's a long story. Please give us some space. We need answers."
Taro:
"Alright, I understand. I brought some more warm milk. It's cold out there—take care."
They nodded and watched Taro walk away. Then they turned back to the child, staring at him intently.
Child:
"I don't know who I am… or how I ended up there. I can't remember."
They exchanged shocked looks as the child continued.
Child:
"The only thing I remember… is people calling me a 'demon'…"
