Chapter 81 - Pikachu’s Magnetic Multiverse Journey! [81]

"Weezing, use [SMOKESCREEN]!"

Realizing the situation had turned against them, the Team Rocket members quickly ordered their Koffing and Weezing to blanket the area in thick smoke. In moments, a choking black fog swallowed the battlefield, giving them the perfect cover for a swift, practiced retreat.

"Fetch'd!" Seeing Team Rocket flee, Farfetch'd rushed headlong toward their Pokémon-catching machine.

"Stop it!"

Several Rockets hastily commanded their Pokémon to intercept the fearless duck as it charged forward.

"[LIGHT SCREEN]!" Ray Chu leaped into action, landing gracefully in front of Farfetch'd. His tiny paws spread wide, instantly erecting a barrier that deflected the barrage of incoming attacks.

With Ray Chu covering its advance, Farfetch'd surged forward unhindered, its fierce gaze unwavering. It effortlessly smashed through every opponent in its path until it finally reached Team Rocket's device.

From somewhere to the side, Proton sneered. "Golbat, [SLUDGE BOMB]!"

Golbat's jaws opened wide, unleashing a thick torrent of sludge that threatened to bury Farfetch'd.

"Gah!" With a fierce cry, Farfetch'd swung its leek blade high, golden energy crackling along its surface.

[FOCUS ENERGY]

Boosted by the surge of power, the leek sliced through the sludge like a blazing sword, causing a fiery explosion that blasted outward. Without losing momentum, Farfetch'd cleaved the sinister machine neatly in two!

Boom! Boom! BOOM!

The device burst apart, releasing dozens of captured forest Pokémon from their Poké Balls. Furious at their captivity, they immediately swarmed their Rocket captors with fierce vengeance.

"Dammit! Mission aborted! All units, withdraw!" Proton swiftly gave the order upon seeing their plans unravel. Grabbing hold of Golbat's leg, he soared swiftly into the distance.

The other Rocket grunts fought a running retreat. Despite relentless pursuit by the enraged wild Pokémon, Team Rocket's disciplined Pokémon managed to hold their attackers at bay, and they ultimately escaped into the darkness of the forest.

Seeing their foes vanish, Farfetch'd raised its voice sharply, signaling the forest Pokémon to cease their pursuit.

Peace gradually returned to the forest after the chaos. Wild Pokémon gently licked their wounds, knowing well there was no Pokémon Center to heal them here in the wilderness.

Soon, the families of Pidgeot and Vileplume gratefully bid farewell to Ray Chu and Farfetch'd before disappearing back into the shadows of the trees. Other Pokémon followed suit, returning to their homes.

This was the way of Pokémon. Compared to the complicated hearts of humans, Pokémon were purer, simpler creatures. Though briefly captured, once freed, they returned without hesitation to their original dwellings.

Farfetch'd stood firm, silently watching until the very last Rattata hopped back into the brush. Only then did it utter a quiet sigh and lean wearily against a tree, lowering its head in exhaustion.

It had fought relentlessly all day, holding out until the final Pokémon was safe before finally letting itself rest.

When it awoke, Farfetch'd found a campfire crackling nearby. Ray Chu was hovering several berries over the flames with his psychic powers, roasting them clumsily.

"Pika!" Seeing Farfetch'd awake, Ray Chu cheerfully offered him some slightly charred berries—injured Pokémon must surely be hungry!

Farfetch'd eyed the half-burnt berries, sighed, and vanished into the forest.

A short while later, it returned with a pile of fresh ingredients, somehow acquiring an iron pot and firewood as well. Soon enough, a mouthwatering aroma filled the air as a delicious meal was prepared.

Unashamed, Ray Chu called out Bulbasaur as usual, and together they happily mooched off Farfetch'd's cooking. After stuffing himself, Ray Chu instructed Bulbasaur to wash the dishes by the riverside, then leaned contentedly against a tree, suddenly realizing he'd gained a few pounds lately.

Beside him, Farfetch'd was tending to its injuries, skillfully crushing medicinal herbs and applying the poultice carefully to its wounds.

Ray Chu's Ki could recover his stamina but did little for wounds.

This Farfetch'd clearly had experience. It quickly finished dressing its injuries, stood, smoothed out its feathers, and called softly to Ray Chu.

"You're asking me to follow you?" Ray Chu flipped upright, pointing to himself curiously.

Farfetch'd nodded, then led him deeper into the forest until they arrived at a small cottage nestled among the trees.

No humans lived there now, yet traces of long-term habitation lingered everywhere. Ray Chu guessed immediately that this had been Farfetch'd's home.

The duck led him behind the house, stopping at a grave beneath an old tree. Engraved on the tombstone were the words:

"The Last Knight, Don Quixote."

The name of whoever erected it had faded with time, but a photo remained—a silver-haired elderly man and a very young Farfetch'd.

"So, you were raised by a human?" Ray Chu asked softly.

Farfetch'd nodded, gently setting down its leek. Lighting three sticks of incense, it held them reverently between its wings, quietly paying respects as its eyes shimmered with unreadable emotion.

Ray Chu approached respectfully, standing upright and bowing solemnly as well.

Their tribute finished, Farfetch'd led Ray Chu into the cabin. Inside, Ray Chu found numerous photographs chronicling the lives of the old man and Farfetch'd. Pictures ranged from the duckling's hatching day, to wobbly first steps, and rigorous sword training. One large photo stood out prominently, captioned simply:

"Don Quixote and Dapple—cherished family."

"So, your name's Dapple…" Ray Chu murmured quietly.

Farfetch'd gazed fondly at the photos one last time, then quickly gathered a few belongings and spoke gently to Ray Chu. "Fetch'd, Fetch'd…"

"You mean—you want to leave with me?" Ray Chu was startled by the duck's sudden request.

Farfetch'd nodded, then shook its head, clarifying its intention with another soft cry.

"Oh, you don't want to become my Pokémon, but rather my traveling companion." Ray Chu exchanged puzzled glances with Bulbasaur, who cluelessly murmured, "Saur…" Didn't being caught by the boss make you his companion anyway?

Realizing something, Ray Chu retrieved Bulbasaur's Poké Ball. "Come back first, Bulbasaur." Then, extending a paw to Farfetch'd, he smiled warmly. "Of course! Welcome aboard, Farfetch'd."

Farfetch'd extended a wing, shaking paws in a solemn gesture, a faint smile on its beak—momentarily stunning Ray Chu.

Shaking himself awake, Ray Chu quickly added, "Oh right, I haven't introduced myself yet. My name's Ray Chu."

Farfetch'd tilted its head curiously, the tuft of feathers atop its head bobbing in confusion. Aren't you a Pikachu? Raichu's the evolved form of Pikachu.

"Ah, well…it's complicated."

Their figures gradually faded into the distance, the small cabin behind them blending once again into the embrace of the forest, hidden from view. Ahead lay a new chapter in their adventure…
