Chapter 136 - Breaking the Chains

Hikaru's vision cleared. The fog of Blackmail's influence shattered like glass, leaving her gasping, knees wobbling, and her side seared from the wound she inflicted to reclaim her mind.

Her katana slipped from her grasp, clattering against the broken ground, but her eyes—finally fully her own—burned with the fierce light of determination.

"I… I'm free," she whispered, voice hoarse, trembling, yet resolute. Each word carried the weight of sacrifice, the agony of being forced against her will, and the relief of regaining control.

Daji staggered forward, her fox tails twitching weakly from the blow she had absorbed. "Hikaru… you did it…"

"Yes," Hikaru said through clenched teeth, blood dripping from her mouth. "I won't… let him—Brush—be hurt… Not again."

Every step was agony, but her spirit roared louder than the pain. She stood between Brush and the lingering shadows of Blackmail, a human barrier of resolve and love.

Blackmail hissed, recoiling from the unexpected defiance. Its tendrils quivered in frustration. "Impossible… you… broke free…"

Hikaru's hand trembled slightly as she reached for her katana again, but her gaze was unwavering. "It's over. At least… the control is over. The cost… was mine to bear."

Brush surged forward, aura blazing, relief flooding him as he saw the woman who had protected him countless times finally herself. "Hikaru… you're okay…"

"I'm alive," she said with a faint, determined smile. "And I'm not letting anyone—anyone—touch you while I still draw breath."

The battlefield paused for a heartbeat, the tension hanging in the air. Blackmail had lost its grip, but the war wasn't over. Yet Hikaru's freedom—hard-won, bloody, and heroic—was a spark that reignited the team's courage.
