Chapter 41 - chapter 41: BETWEEN WAITING AND WANTING

"You guys should go back and rest. I'll stay with him," Ping said quietly, his eyes never leaving Keng.

"No, Ping. We'll keep you company while you wait," Jinn replied gently.

"Yeah, that's right. We'll stay with you," Tao added.

Ping shook his head slowly.

"The doctor said we don't know when he's going to wake up. It's better if I stay here with him. Please… go back it's late already."

The room fell silent for a moment.

"Okay then," Jinn finally said. "If you need anything, call us immediately."

"I'll stay with you," Rain said quickly, clearly unwilling to leave Ping alone.

Jinn glanced at Rain, then sighed.

"Come back with me. I need to talk to you," he said, gripping Rain's wrist and pulling him along before Rain could protest.

And just like that, Ping was alone with Keng.

He walked back to the bedside and sat down slowly, his movements careful, as if afraid even the smallest sound might disturb him.

"Hia…" Ping whispered softly.

He took Keng's hand, pressing it gently against his lips.

"Please wake up soon," he murmured, his voice trembling.

"I'm right here… I'm waiting for you."

Tears slipped down his cheeks as he stayed there, holding Keng's hand, refusing to let go.

Outside the room, footsteps approached.

Keng's parents had arrived.

Through the glass, they saw Ping sitting beside the bed, clutching Keng's hand, crying silently as he spoke to him.

Keng's mother took a step forward, her hand reaching for the door.

But Keng's father stopped her.

"Let's go see the doctor," he said, his expression unreadable.

She hesitated, looking back at Ping one last time, her heart heavy with questions she couldn't voice.

Then she nodded.

Without interrupting, they turned and walked away—

leaving behind a quiet room filled with love, fear, and a boy who refused to give up on the one he loved.

"You guys can leave first I'll catch up later," Jinn said quietly to Tao and Bank.

They exchanged a glance, understanding the situation immediately, then nodded and walked away without saying a word.

Rain turned to Jinn with a pout.

"And why did you drag me out like that?" he asked.

"You're avoiding me, aren't you?" Jinn said, his tone serious.

"I'm not," Rain replied quickly, looking away.

"Then look into my eyes," Jinn said, stepping closer and gently holding Rain's face, forcing him to look up.

The moment Rain met Jinn's gaze, his guard cracked.

"Fine," Rain sighed. "I am avoiding you. So what?"

"And why are you avoiding me?" Jinn asked softly.

"Well…" Rain hesitated. "It's nothing. I guess I'm just overreacting."

"Rain," Jinn said firmly, still holding his gaze.

Rain swallowed, then blurted out what had been weighing on his heart.

"How could you hug someone else's boyfriend when you already have yours?"

Jinn froze for a second—then he understood.

Before Rain could say anything else, Jinn leaned in and kissed him.

It wasn't rushed. It wasn't forceful.

It was clear.

When Jinn pulled back, he looked straight into Rain's stunned eyes.

"So you just said I have a boyfriend?" Jinn asked calmly.

Rain blinked, still processing what had just happened.

"Did I say that?" he asked, flustered.

"Yes," Jinn replied simply.

"Then why did you kiss me?" Rain asked, trying to sound annoyed but failing avoiding jinn's question.

"Because I like you," Jinn said seriously.

"Well, that still doesn't give you the right to kiss me," Rain said, turning away and storming off—

though a small smile betrayed him.

"Hey, wait for me," Jinn called after him with a grin.

"Why are you leaving your boyfriend behind?" jinn teased running after rain.
