[The Ending: The Pyrrhic Victory]
The overload fries the drone network globally. For a moment, the world is free. The slums rise up. The gates of the Citadel are breached.
But in the reactor room, Darkford survives. He manages to stabilize the system before the Spire collapses. He looks at Rena, defeated and unconscious on the floor. He raises his hand to kill her... but stops.
He looks at the chaos below—the burning city, the rioting people destroying his pristine technology.
Six Months Later.
Order has returned. The rebellion failed because starving people cannot fight against orbital bombardment.
Darkford sits in his rebuilt office. The Rift is stable. The energy flows. The first floating city, "Elysium Prime," is launching today. It is beautiful, white, and pure.
Darkford stands alone. He is the savior of the human race. He has secured the future for the 1% who will inhabit the sky.
He walks to a stasis pod in the corner of the room. Inside, frozen in cryo-sleep, is Rena Sol. He places a hand on the glass.
"You'll see, eventually," he whispers to her sleeping form. "One day, you'll thank me."
He turns back to the window. Below him, the clouds cover the Earth, hiding the suffering, the ruin, and the millions left behind in the dark.
The End.
