She turned to look at him,"Can you keep going? I don't think I can handle all of them at once."
Alex nodded, his azure eyes blazing with resolve as he faced forward. The black slime, abandoning its shield, stepped forward, its eyes flickering with malevolent intent, anger burning in its deep, dark gaze. A wicked grin slit its mouth, and with voracious hunger, it consumed the blue slimes in rapid succession, devouring the four slimes. Eva's heart raced as the black slime ballooned to three times its original size, its soul stone pulsing with a sinister, near-blinding energy. Terror filled the air—witnessing black slime grow big with such monstrous power was nightmarish for them.
Alex, with a worried face, turned on his status window to examine the black slime monster.

Alex, drenched in sweat, stared at the level. A chill ran through his spine. He shouted, his voice shaking, fear evident in his voice,'W... We are doomed. The slime had risen up by tw... two levels.' They exchanged worried glances. They nodded their head, and they turned and ran back along the path they had come from previously.
"SKREEE!! SKREEE!!"Black Slime gave a piercing scream through its mouth, baring its long tongue out. They didn't dare to turn back; they forced their legs to speed up, and black slime followed them at an astounding pace.
They jumped over the countless dead slime's bodies that had filled the path. Initially, they thought the slime was not good at running, as they made a significant gap, but its speed was accelerating by every second, proving their assumption wrong.
Just when they didn't want more trouble, a slime monster appeared on their path, blocking them. They were unintelligent monsters, but due to the boss slime controlling them, they had blocked the path. Princess Eva led the way, slicing through slime and destroying the soul stone. Alex jumped in, tackling attacking slimes from the sides that were jumping at them. Both were breathless and rapidly losing stamina as they fought against the incoming slimes.
Princess Eva stopped in her tracks. Not happy with the sudden stop, Alex shouted, "Why are you stopping?"
Princess Eva turned back and went on to take a fighting stance,"We can't run like this, our stamina is decreasing, at this rate, it will easily catch up, and there is no hiding spot as well". The place was filled with grass; everywhere, it was thick, lush green grass, and nothing else.
Alex understood this, but there was such a wide gap in level; he hesitated at first, then nodded. He took out some potions from his dimensional space and chugged them. Princess Eva did the same. Alex looked at his golden bracelet on his right hand that was supposed to protect him, but he found out today that it didn't help with direct attack, only protected against spells and magic attacks, as slimes were able to attack him.
Slime had caught up to them, its mouth turned into a big smile, eyes small and elongated as if anger filled it for making it run this long.
Alex also shifted into a fighting stance. Together, they charged at the black slime—Princess Eva attacked first, driving her sword into it, but the blade stopped in its tracks as slime hardened its skin around the soul stone, and hardened flesh covered it. She struggled to free her sword and was knocked backward by the impact as she finally freed the sword. Alex pressed the assault, slashing deep into the slime's body. Wherever he would cut, the slime would regenerate instantly; it couldn't harden its whole body at once, probably some flaw that he found, so he used his blade and landed more hits in quick succession in different locations, but failed to injure it permanently.
He retreated and helped the Princess who had fallen down. Both looked into each other's eyes; their resolve was clear. They had to kill it here, or they would not be able to live long.
Alex first attacked it just as before, then retreated and attacked again. This only further infuriated slime; it jumped and, with its speed, made Alex fall down on his back and was about to give crushing damage, but Princess Eva stopped it midway, her sword deflecting its attack.
Alex stood up immediately,"Thanks, we can't keep on going like this. I'll draw the slime's attention. You circle around and strike from behind." Not waiting for any reply, he dashed and started attacking. Slime jumped at him. Instead of deflecting it, he took it with full force and fell down near it. Slime reached near him, its smile reaching its eye, and was about to crush his head. Alex tried to reach for his sword. Just in time, Princess Eva came from the rear end and thrashed her sword inside it in a straight manner, with all her force, not giving it enough chance to strengthen it. This time, the sword successfully reached the soul stone and pierced it completely.
Slime fell down, slime stone losing its brightness and slowly turning gray. Princess Eva let go of her sword and fell down on her back. Alex, who was already lying on the ground, looked at the endless blue sky unoccupied by any clouds, turned his head towards her,"You did great! Thanks for saving my life."
Princess Eva turned towards him,"Why didn't you defend yourself? You could have died if I were just a little bit late."
Alex smiled, his face brightening as he replied with a smug face,"We could have died nonetheless. I just took the gamble, and well, it paid off nicely." She wanted to rebuke his carelessness, but she didn't have enough strength and kept on looking at the endless blue sky as they successfully cleared the gate.
