Chapter 81 - Consulting a Lawyer

The delightful cuddling lasted all night.

Bonanus slept very comfortably that night—a soft, beautiful young woman in her arms, a cozy bed beneath her, and the relative quiet of Yujing Terrace. The sleep couldn't have been better.

She slept deeply, adapting quickly without any insomnia from the unfamiliar surroundings.

Truth be told, it wasn't entirely unfamiliar anyway. In her previous life's game, this was a must-pass route for collecting Glaze Lilies and Silk Flowers.

Add to that the absence of the harsh city noises from her old life, and a good night's sleep was inevitable.

She remembered how restless nights used to be—either some show-off revving his engine, kids screaming downstairs at odd hours, drunkards yelling, or shrews cursing in the streets. (The author's daily life.)

Life had been unbearable, living constantly with noise.

She'd bought several earplugs, but they seemed useless. The annoying noise persisted, and reports went ignored—endlessly frustrating.

But now, without that annoying noise, Bonanus felt like she'd arrived in heaven. Finally, she could sleep well!

Bonanus slept wonderfully, but Yanfei? Not so much. Her night passed immersed in a milky fragrance. One had to admit—though Bonanus appeared somewhat flat, there was still some softness there.

Currently, Yanfei was struggling with how to get out of bed.

Normally, at this hour, Yanfei would have long since risen to handle her daily work. But Bonanus held her too tightly—she couldn't break free.

As the saying goes, if you can't break free, struggling is useless. Better to conserve energy and quietly enjoy the moment.

Though Yanfei felt uneasy about waking late, she had no choice but to wait for Bonanus to wake up.

With this thought, Yanfei sighed deeply. Sister Bonanus showed absolutely no restraint around her—she'd completely revealed her true nature!

Resigned, Yanfei closed her eyes and began her long wait.

...

A while later...

Patience paid off. After an extended wait, Yanfei finally saw Bonanus awaken. It hadn't been easy.

Though she could have simply called out to wake her, Yanfei chose not to. Sister Bonanus rarely got to sleep peacefully in this era of peace—Yanfei couldn't bear to disturb her.

Bonanus was awake, but she had a habit of lounging in bed. As a professional slacker, staying in bed was mandatory.

"Sister Bonanus! Time to get up." Yanfei wore an expression of despair. She never expected Sister Bonanus to be so tormenting.

Today was truly an education!

Compared to the taciturn Conqueror of Demons and the other untainted adepti, Sister Bonanus was clearly the special one.

Uncle Bosacius was special too, but Sister Bonanus might slightly edge him out—at least Uncle Bosacius's constant demonic laughter made him seem like he'd won a million Mora jackpot.

Seeing no response, Yanfei helplessly rubbed Bonanus's waist, trying to tickle her awake.

"Sister Bonanus, really, it's time to get up." Yanfei struggled again after speaking but still couldn't break free.

"Nooo... five more minutes..." Bonanus's voice was extremely lazy. She didn't open her eyes, continuing to snore softly.

"Sister Bonanus..." Yanfei felt utterly defeated. She had so much to do today! No more lounging!

Perhaps sensing Yanfei's distress, Bonanus finally forced her eyes open. Gazing at the beautiful young woman in her arms, she smiled gently.

"Good morning, little Yanfei~"

Hearing a response, Yanfei brightened immediately. Finally, she could get up!

"It's not morning anymore, Sister Bonanus! I have things to do—I'm already late!" Yanfei struggled again after speaking and, surprisingly, broke free this time.

Bonanus had just realized that because of her lounging, she'd made someone else late for work. She felt somewhat embarrassed.

As a senior, showing such an embarrassing side to a junior was quite awkward.

Yanfei rose and rushed through her preparations at lightning speed. She tidied her hair, washed up, dressed, and gathered her documents faster than ever.

Watching this, Bonanus yawned lazily and wandered into the living room. Seeing Yanfei so busy, she asked curiously.

"Got important work today, little Yanfei?"

Yanfei, mid-preparation, glanced over. Thinking briefly, she quickly responded:

"Need to handle some merchants who breached their contracts—arrange compensation payments. Also need to visit a few families to sort out some troublesome domestic issues. And help the Millelith with some matters while I'm at it."

When Yanfei mentioned "troublesome issues," her expression showed clear displeasure. Not because they were troublesome, but because they touched upon her blind spots.

In the eyes of Liyue's people, Yanfei was walking law incarnate. As a half-adeptus, she upheld what she believed to be just. Many feared her and kept their distance.

Yanfei was a highly responsible legal consultant. In Liyue, no lawyer matched her absolute commitment to the rules.

If you tried to bribe Yanfei, prepare to face the consequences of breaking contract! She wouldn't hit you, but she'd make you pay until you had nothing left.

But she had her weaknesses—particularly disputes involving emotions and family ties. Things like divorce asset division, child custody, elder support, severing family relations, and so on.

As they say, even upright officials find family matters hard to judge. For Yanfei, raised in a loving environment, handling these issues was genuinely difficult. Everyone has their weak spots.

Sometimes she felt both sides had a point; other times, both seemed wrong.

When custody disputes arose, she felt that no matter how she mediated, innocent children would suffer psychological damage.

Yanfei always thought comprehensively, even considering people's inner feelings. But that very comprehensiveness left her exhausted after mediating such troublesome matters.

No matter how sharp her mind or eloquent her speech, she couldn't overcome this blind spot. She'd studied hard to improve, but the results were always less than ideal.

Noticing Yanfei's furrowed brow, Bonanus asked with concern:

"If you don't like handling those troublesome matters, why not leave them to other legal consultants? Liyue's big—surely there's more than just you, right?"

Yanfei shook her head helplessly. This was her duty; she couldn't refuse. And if she gave up just because something was hard, how would she ever grow?

"Thanks for your concern, Sister Bonanus. But I'll work hard to do better." Yanfei said firmly.

With that, she finished adjusting her clothes, splashed cool water on her tired face, took a deep breath, grabbed her prepared documents, and prepared to leave.

Just as she was about to head out, Bonanus called out again.

"Want your big sister to come with you?"

Little FYI (unrelated to the chapter):

Yanfei always carries a copy of the Liyue Legal Code: General Provisions. Her hobbies are reading and appraisal. Reading expands knowledge; appraisal sharpens the eye. She reads everything.

Yanfei dislikes rainy days—they make her thick books damp. She treasures her books dearly.

Yanfei's favorite food is tofu. Tofu starts as a mild ingredient, tender in texture, warm, and nourishing. It blends perfectly with various broths. Most importantly, it's available year-round—she can eat it anytime.

Not seeking supremacy, only perfection—tofu dishes embody the flavor Yanfei desires. Also, she doesn't like cold dishes.

Yanfei excels in both civil and martial matters. Anyone who dares cause trouble must face the full force of the law. If necessary, Yanfei won't hesitate to use force.

Yanfei has a self-created technique called "Blazing Justice," adapted from the ancient text Compendium of Liyue's Legal Precedents which recorded "Rock-Shattering Justice."

Yanfei's most precious possession is a scale given to her by her father. (The one she uses when using her burst.)

Legend has it this scale was bestowed by Rex Lapis himself—a treasure capable of weighing the value of all things. Yanfei usually uses Mora to balance it, measuring objects' worth in Mora.

Of course, as times change, many items' values shift subtly. The scale can only measure the original pricing from when Mora was first created. For everything else, Yanfei relies on her own knowledge.

If you wish to hire her as a legal consultant, the fees are: 6,000 Mora per article explained; 180,000 Mora per hour for on-site consultation; and commercial cases starting at 710,000 Mora, with subsequent quotes and commissions depending on circumstances.
