A short while after Eliora walked out, the door opened again and Elder Lily walked into the study. She stopped a few steps inside and bowed her head low.
"You asked for me, Your Majesty." she said.
Zarek sat in his chair, turned away from his desk. He was not looking at his paperwork. Instead, he was looking at his hand. He was holding a small pill between his fingers....the very one his soulmate had been hiding from him.
He stared at the tiny object for a long time before he spoke, his voice dead calm. "She has been secretly taking this."
He turned his chair to face her. "Digging into the truth about this little thing could determine the future of my relationship with the woman of my dreams." he muttered.
Then he looked up and locked eyes with Lily.
"What do I do when I feel it to my bones that..." his voice broke just a little. "That the truth could destroy what we have?"
