Zarek faked a gasp. He dropped his fork and placed his hand over his chest. He made his face look very hurt, though his eyes were dancing with joy.
"Ah, Dove," he said with a dramatic sigh. "You wound me! My heart is bleeding. I'm only trying to be a good husband and this is how you repay me?"
Eliora laughed wholeheartedly. It felt so good to see this playful side of him. The rest of the kingdom only ever saw a scary beast who ruled with a heavy hand, but right now, he was just her loving husband.
"I am sorry, my king," she said, though she was still smiling widely. "I did not mean to hurt your big heart."
Zarek chuckled and gently tapped her nose.
"You are lucky you are so beautiful or I would have to punish you for teasing the king." he joked.
"Oh?" She raised a playful eyebrow. "And what would my punishment be?"
