Chapter 42 - Chapter 42

"Damn… did I just hit Konoha's barrier?"

Yagami stared up at the rippling air hundreds of meters away, frozen in shock.

There was no mistaking it.

That disturbance had come from his attack.

"Don't tell me… my slash actually cracked the village barrier…?"

For a moment, cold sweat slid down his back.

If he really destroyed Konoha's barrier, that would be a catastrophe...

one that even the Hokage would have to respond to personally.

Fortunately, the shimmering gap quickly shrank, reforming before his eyes until the barrier returned to normal as if nothing had happened.

"Hah… good, good…"

He let out a shaky exhale.

That was way too close.

As for the third slash—Armament Haki and Chakra together... he would try that tomorrow, far away, while training Kakashi.

Just in case he didn't accidentally bring down the entire barrier system.

With that thought, Yagami sheathed Shisui and stored it away.

Then his gaze drifted toward the remaining bamboo dragonflies in his system inventory.

…He should give one to Mikoto tomorrow.

Flying together above the clouds… holding hands…

That would be nice. Maybe even romantic.

Smiling at the thought, Yagami closed his eyes and drifted to sleep...

completely unaware of the chaos he had just caused.

Meanwhile—Sarutobi Residence

"Hokage-sama!"

Sarutobi Hiruzen had just removed his robe and was preparing to lie down when a frantic voice sounded from outside his home.

"What is it now?"

He quickly pulled his clothing back on and opened the door.

Outside stood not only an ANBU agent but a member of the Konoha Perception Division.

"Hokage-sama," the sensor-nin reported urgently,

"five minutes ago, the southern sector of the barrier registered a forced breach. We do not know what entered or exited Konoha!"

Hiruzen's expression hardened instantly.

"Alert ANBU. Investigate immediately!"

The ANBU vanished with a flicker.

"Hokage-sama, I've already dispatched a team," the agent called back from the shadows.

"Good. Notify the Konoha Military Police as well—have them on high alert tonight."

"Yes!"

Another flicker, and the ANBU was gone.

"You may return," Hiruzen told the sensor-nin, rubbing his temple.

"And raise vigilance for the entire Perception Unit."

"Yes, Hokage-sama!"

As the ninja retreated, Hiruzen remained at the doorway, pipe forgotten in his hand.

Something had breached Konoha's barrier.

Something fast.

Something powerful.

And not a single trace left behind.

The Next Morning

Yagami woke up refreshed and completely unaware that the village had spent the entire night on lockdown because of him.

After washing up, he stepped outside and immediately, an ANBU appeared in front of him.

"Yagami. Lord Hokage requests your presence."

"Hokage-sama?"

Yagami blinked.

He couldn't imagine why he would be summoned.

But he followed without resistance.

Hokage's Office

"Hokage-sama, did you call for me?"

The ANBU dismissed himself, leaving Yagami standing alone before the Third Hokage.

"Yes. There is a mission I want you to undertake."

Hiruzen pushed a mission scroll toward him.

Yagami stepped forward, opened it, and scanned the content.

"…Travel to Hidden Sand? Protect the Queen?"

He raised an eyebrow.

This mission…

He recognized it. From one of the Naruto movies.

"Correct," Hiruzen replied with a nod. "The minister of their country sent this request in secret."

Yagami hesitated only a moment before asking:

"What about Minato? Isn't this normally his mission?"

Hiruzen blinked but answered honestly:

"After your last report, I sent Minato to Iwagakure. Some of our intelligence personnel went missing near their territory."

"I see…"

Yagami nodded.

So Minato wouldn't be meeting future Naruto this time.

He accepted the mission scroll and turned to leave—

"Wait a moment."

Hiruzen's sudden voice made him pause.

"Hokage-sama?"

"Yagami… your home is in the southern district, correct? Did you notice anything unusual last night?"

"Unusual?"

Yagami kept his expression carefully blank.

"No. Nothing out of the ordinary."

Hiruzen leaned back, pipe in hand, frowning in thought.

"The Perception Division detected something breaking through the southern barrier. When ANBU investigated… they found no trace. Not a mark. Not a residue. Nothing."

"…."

Yagami's smile stiffened.

That "something" was his slash.

His ten-meter Armament Haki-powered slash.

And ANBU had searched all night for a ghost.

"Strange, isn't it?" Hiruzen muttered.

Yagami could only laugh dryly in his heart.

Strange? No. Terrifyingly accurate? Yes.

If the Third ever learned he accidentally cracked the village barrier, his peaceful days might end immediately.
