Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Mark Frost

Twilight's came, he's still a bit tired but Rouen dicided to wake up, even though it's probably just five to six hours he sleep, right after he's back from the guild. He knows he can't left that carriage full of 'Treasure' too long in the stable, dispite the master's promise to look after it.

Come on wake up! Better to finish all this sooner! Wake up!

He wash his face, eat some food, and put on his armour...he's ready to go!

First he go to the bank, the bank of the Union of the state's Confederation is one of the bigest and most prestigious in the whole known world! Diferent from it's counterfeit such a the bank of Renald's which base in the Lombart Empire, the Union is one of the most if not the 'most' democratic, modern, and fairest of all the banks the world curently had. The Union is also one of the reasons why the Confederation slowly became the most powerfull realm in the western world. It's supports to alot of enterpreneurs and it's willingness to invest in it's secluded areas across the Confederation's states. Make the Confederation stand a little bit more taller than the other nations across the western world.

After a moment of waiting, Rouen finally had his turn to meet the bank's teller.

"Ah, good afternoon Mr.Rouen, please take a sit."..."what can i help you with?"

"I would like to make a withdraw today."

"Alright then...you curently had fourty five thousand and two hundred of Karlings..." That's it, fourty five thousands...that's everything Rouen had saved all in his entire life, years of questing and hardship he's enduring...everything is worth fourty five thousands, that...wasn't so bad! "How much you want to withdraw sir?"

I did it! I reach fifty thousand!

Not to mention the other Karlings and Treasure back in the carriage, i'am worth more than fifty thousands now!

The first ceck in my list is happening!

"I'am withdrawing thirty thousand of Karlings sir."

"That's quite much Mr. Rouen, planing on purchasing some property at last?"

"That's right sir!"

"Ah, i see...you must be exited then."

I'am! "Yes sir."

"Alright then, please wait a moment here, i'll be back with your money sir."

"Alright!"

Moment latter the bank teller's come with a big chest full a Karlings, That seems heavy...

"Here you go then sir, thirty thousand Karlings in total...would you like to check it?" He's actualy serious?

There's a reasons why i save my money on the so called 'most trusted' bank in the world you know. This is one of them.

"No need for that, i trust the Union!"

"Thank you sir!" His smile big. "Allow me to brief you then, as for today your save in your account now is numbered; fifteen thosands two hundred of Karlings, do you noted sir?" He ask.

"I do sir."

"Then, please sight here." The teller give Rouen a piece of paper, a document of his account balance.

Rouen take a moment to review it again, then he sight it.

"Well then. I hope you bought a wonderfull property then Mr. Rouen."

"Thank you sir, i'll take my leave then."

"Save travel, good fortune!"

Rouen haul his chest full of Karlings, it's better if people doesn't know what's inside he thoughts. He walk for ten minutes and he arrive at the stable...Rouen check his carriage.

It's all here safe!

"Thank you for looking up my carriage sir, i'll be taking my leaving then."

"Right lad! Save journey!"

All things packed, Rouen waste no time and start moves. Only a few hours before nightfall, if he's fast he might arrived at first at nearest inn his direction lead him; the south way roads. He pass the city gate again, this time Captain Luke wasn't there, probably off clock first, but the other guards seems to already notice Rouen, so they let him pass without anymore 'nonsenses' one of them even bow his head slightly, yeah that one guy.

"Save travels!" He said.

"Thank you!" Shit face!

Out of Leonier, now...the distance he must take is quite long, his carriage's full of Karlings and 'Treasure'. He can't let his guard down either for the next few days. He lack sleep and yet more sleepless nights awaits him.

I can do this! I'll sleep as much as i want when i get home!...Home! Can't wait to see uncle Mark's expressions, he must be really happy! Finally i got all the money!

He'll get to retired and live peacefully in his old age...he deserve it! After everything he's done to me, i could finally give him this much...he must be happy! I'am happy!

It's been seven years that Rouen been living with Mark Frost, an old farmer who takes Rouen in when nobody wants him, who cares for him, who teach him, and who loves him like his own son. Poor and lonely mark that's how people use to know him, but it wasn't always like that. He's once a proud member of the city's guard of Leonier, Captain Luke was once his subordinate! He was strong back then they say! Then he meet a beautiful woman, they fell in love and get married, soon they had a son, strong and handsome they name him Rowan Frost. Years pass Rowan grew nicely, his father, geting old, Mark then retired as the guard's Captain, with his savings he bought a large plot of land, and build a farmhouse there, it's always his dream to do so when he get retired. Years pass and they live happy and peacefully. Mark and his wife grow old and their son Rowan became a hight ranked adventurer who'll make his parents proud!

Every chapter in Mark's life is a good chapter, until the Gods finally test him. No matter how strong and high ranking an adventurer is, it's still a 'gamble' life, a dangerous one, and once you are in the wrong side of the luck...everything can end rather sadly. The day that cursed news come, when Mark and his wife heard that their proud son is dead, the world shatered around them. His wife fell ill and finally succumb to her grief. At the same year Mark lose all his beloved ones, he's broken and despaired, some of his friends such as Captain Luke try to comfort him, try to lift up his spirits again. It wasn't much of help, he's still griefing, cursing the Gods for what they've done to the last chapter's of his life, why only now? Why must now? People then starts to nick name him 'poor Mark' for he is such a poor man, the Gods truely cheated him.

However, one day, when Mark cross the streets of Ravenhold, he sees a boy, probably ten years old. A refuge from the great war. No more a soldier, yet Mark still pay attention to the world's news specialy about military matters. He knew about the great war that wages upon the western world. A great horde of army come from another side of the world. Conquered and destroyed nations in the east side of western world. He heard about their brutality, these animals would rape man's wife and daughter infront of their eyes before killing them slowly while they laughing like maniacs. And all matters of torture and killing that never even heard in the civilized world of the western. They terrorize the whole world. Only when all the nations of the western world finally merge and combined their streng together, the great horde can finally repelled. The grand army of combined nations lead by the greatest hero of that time, the Hight Paladin Daren Stormbane. Old might some seeing him, his might and charisma is matchless, his wisdom second to none. In his command, the grand army pierced the horde's line, break their morale and finally scatter them to pieces. Although it's pieces became a hassle throught the time.

To many to kill at one time, the warriors of the great horde's scattered across their conquered lands. Although these lands that they conquered, they don't anex them, after all their bulk of power was destroyed once, and they can't afford to run a realm in these vast lands with their armies gone. What's left from once a great horde is only a numerous warbands that individually formed, and they roams these vast land that finally called 'land of anarchy' for these land have no owner, ruler, protector and such. Numerous points of population can still be found in this land. They form a comunity and they strugling together to make a better living. They can only defend themselfs alone when one of those warbands come attacking their settlements. The Royals and the Nobels that once ruling these lands were either dead or take refuge in the save lands beyond the God's splits hold. It's a great river that stretching from up nord of the continent, down to the south's of it, spliting the whole continent into two parts, that's how it gets the name. The only way to pass it, is throught some bridges that were build and heavily guarded by the western nations. Pass this river to the west, is called save lands, for the terror of the great horde's can be found no more in these lands. Pass the river to the east side, the lands called 'land of anarchy'. Althought some of these land is relatively save the closest it is to the river, for the warbands wont risk going too west because they can encounter the western patrols. These lands, that quite save, sometimes become the answers for those who unfortunate back in the western nations. Poor farmers, exile, oportunist, and such people coming to these 'free lands' hoping to build a new life for themselfs. Rouen's parents is one of them.

When Mark see Rouen, somehow it reminds him of his beloved son Rowan, is it their face? Their posture? Their names?

Whatever that Mark sees, it moves him. For once he actualy gain some will to life again. He then talk to the boy, listen to his stories, and finally decided that he will adopt the poor boy. Mark teach Rouen everything about all millitary matters he known, surprisingly the boy take it quite seriously. Rouen seems to find the idea about fighting for living is the most basic things that one's should first know and learned. Mark couldn't blame him, after everything the boy's experiencing, it is only fiting. He will teach the boy everything he want to learn, then one day the boy's said; "uncle Mark! I want to start became an adventurer!" He's just twelve at this point. Mark's can only agreeing to Rouen's will. The only thing he can do is preparing the boy to be most ready. Mark taugh Rouen how to wield the Swordstaff, he found it rather...strange, but happy. Mark try to taugh his son Rowan how to wield Swordstaff too, but Rowan doesn't seems interested on using Swordstaff as his primary weapon, Rowan prefer's two handed sword, thus he was famous for his skill using Claymore. This doesn't really bother Mark's feeling, whatever Rowan choose as his preferences of weapons, Mark's fine with it, after all Rowan's actualy good at it! But Mark's couldn't help but thinking it would be a shame if his skills would die out with him. The martial knowledge of using a Swordstaff, that he's been improving, perfected throughout the years when he's a soldier, a Captain. A knowledge that worth his entire life's experience throughout the battle field and other skirmish he had when he's young. And if that knowledge must disappear with his death, it truely be a SHAME.

And that's why Mark's was overjoyed when Rouen takes swordstaff as his primary weapon's, and ask Mark to teach him everything Mark's knows. Mark's found Rouen a fast learner and determinded, a great talent and a hard working, yet Rouen's doesn't let such trait swalow him in pridefullness and self important, he's humble and always keep his cool. Mark would never be so happy to call him, 'son', thought somehow Rouen's called him 'uncle' since it was Mark himself the one who tell him to do so when they meet the first time in Ravenhold streets. Seems it was awkward for Mark to tell the boy to start calling him 'father' instead, and since 'uncle' also count for a familly still.

The only thing's left of Rowan's when his body was found is his dark gray metal armour that he always proud of. The cuirass was made from a really rare of metals, dark steels that called platinum that rumoured to be such an expensive commodities in blacksmith world. As to how Rowan get his hand's into such priceless metals is still unknow just like his death's causes. Mark knows how much Rowan love and proud of his armour, he like to boast about it, how it's made by the most skilled blacksmith in Confederation, how hard and tough the material was, and how much Karlings he'll get if he sells it, but never about how he gets the platinum ingots in the first place. Mark recon Rowan's armour might even worth more than his own...'Treasure', there for after Rowan's death, Mark's took care of the armours. He place it in armour display, everytime he sees it, it reminds him of Rowan. Years pass, and Rouen grow in posture, one day he come home and said that he got promoted to Obsidian's rank, Mark's happy and proud of him, he knows it's not easy to get there, not to mention in such a young age. As a reward for Rouen's hard work, Mark gives him his beloved son's armour, thinking it better be used to protect his still alive loved ones, rather than just being a glorious display. Rouen was overjoyed to recieved such a grand rewards. Surprissingly when Rouen put it on, the armour fit him perfectly. There's even that day in the afternoon, Rouen just get back from questing, he see Mark's sit on the terrace's chair seems to be asleep. When Rouen try to wake him up, Mark sudently shocked, he thought it was his death son's. "R-Rowan...?" Tears falling from his eyes, not so much.

"Yes, it's me Rouen uncle...i'am home."

It's not like Rouen didn't understand it, he just doesn't know how to react about it.
