Chapter 1 - silence before storm

Scene: Sean Apartment, 9th Floor – Morning

The apartment is large and messy. Sunlight streams through the windows. In the bedroom, Arjun is still in bed, surrounded by ruffled blankets and pillows scattered against the walls. Medals hang nearby, alongside a photo of Arjun receiving first place in shooting.

Mom (from the kitchen, making breakfast): Arjun! Wake up, now!

Arjun (murmuring, eyes closed, lying sprawled on the bed): Hmmm…

Mom (warning tone): Are you coming out, or should I come in?!

Arjun (breaking voice, scratching his head, opening his eyes to the wall): I'm up…

On the wall, a poster reads:

"National Institute of Sports"

Sports Categories: Running, Shooting,....

Date: 05/05/2025

Dad (from the dining table): Come out now!

Arjun (yawning, annoyed, steps off the bed and walks out): Coming…

Mom: How many times do I have to tell you to wake up on time?

Arjun: Sorry…

Dad: Are you ready for your upcoming shooting tournament ?

Arjun: Yeah… I'm ready. (His sleep vanishes as he perks up.)

Mom: And your exams next month?

Arjun: We still have a month.

Dad: But studying is just as important as shooting. Got it?

Arjun: Yes, I know. I'm doing fine anyway.

Mom: Not just fine—do your best, just like in shooting.

Arjun: I'll try. (He reaches for a piece of bread, and Mom playfully takes it from his hand.)

Mom: Did you brush your teeth?

Arjun: Doesn't matter—once a year is enough.

Mom: Do you even brush when you're at tournaments? Go brush your teeth, now!

Dad chuckles behind his newspaper.

Arjun: Fine… (he gets up and walks toward the bathroom)

Mom: You can forget your uniform for the tournament, but if you forget brushing… forget the tournament. I'll cancel it.

Arjun: Fine, don't make such a fuss. I'm going!

Dad: Who talks to their mother like that?

Arjun (playfully): Sorry, my dear parents!

Mom and Dad laugh as Arjun closes the bathroom door.

Mom: Ah, this boy… take a bath too!

Dad: Come on, joke's over. I'll leave now.

Arjun (in the bathroom, pointing his toothbrush like a weapon): I'm gonna win this time too! Bam!

He squeezes the toothpaste and begins brushing.

Scene: – Arjun Packing His Bag

Arjun is packing his bag while his mother hovers, reminding him of small things.

Mom: Did you keep your brush?

Arjun: Yes.

Mom: Uniform?

Arjun: Yes.

Mom: Underwear?

Arjun (annoyed): Mom, who forgets that? Come on…

Mom: You can do anything.

Arjun: Not like I have Alzheimer's. I remember everything.

Mom: What did you just eat?

Arjun (thinking and laughing): It was… uh… that doesn't matter. I remember everything else.

Mom (hugging him): Okay, my dear. Be safe, and win like you always do. Even if you come second, third, or last, it doesn't matter—just give your best.

Arjun (playfully pushing her): I can't breathe! Don't do this!

Mom: Okay, all done.

Arjun: Yes.
