By mid-afternoon, Elara had insisted on taking the driver's bench.
"You do not need to drive, Elara," Li had reasoned, his golden eyes filled with mild disapproval as she climbed up to the wooden seat. "We do not fatigue. I can drive this carriage to the edge of the continent without blinking."
"I want to," Elara had replied stubbornly, taking the heavy leather reins. "I spent the last three months locked in a celestial tower, and before that, running through the Abyss. Let me just exist in the mortal world for an hour."
