Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Rescue

Leaving Côte d'Azur Resort Beach, Marcus found his electric scooter and rode towards a reef area to the south, relying on his memory.

Because this area was undeveloped, very few tourists came here, making it very quiet.

After locking his electric scooter and climbing over the railing, Marcus arrived at the reef area in a short while. Standing on a flat reef, he was still immersed in the excitement of gaining his ability.

It was as if the whole world was in his grasp!

He looked up at the sea.

"Huh?"

Why could he only see the seabed of the nearby shallow water, just like usual?

Marcus rubbed his eyes and looked at the seawater again, but it was still the same as before.

If he looked a little further, he could only see the slightly rippling surface of the sea.

"Was the seabed I saw at Côte d'Azur Resort Beach just an illusion?"

"All that effort for nothing?"

Suddenly, Marcus felt a knot in his heart! It was as uncomfortable as suddenly losing the most important thing!

With a worried heart, he carefully recalled the scene before he could suddenly see the seabed at Côte d'Azur Resort Beach.

He prepared to recreate every detail of that moment:

He slowly walked into the seawater barefoot.

The moment the seawater wet his ankles, all the pores on his body instantly opened up, feeling as refreshing as drinking a glass of iced beverage after sweating profusely on a hot day! He could feel the sea's closeness to him!

He shivered instinctively!

He concentrated, and before his eyes, scenes he had long yearned for reappeared: sandy ground, seaweed, groups of thumb-sized small fish, and a few small crabs scuttling around with their pincers, chasing unknown tiny insects.

In the deeper reef area not far away, the fish moving in and out among the strangely shaped rocks were noticeably larger, and crabs, small octopuses, scallops, sea urchins, oysters, and more crawled on the sand.

Marcus even saw an arm-thick moray eel gnawing on a palm-sized fish. Of course, there were also some large and small pieces of trash floating around.

All kinds of colorful marine life were clear at a glance; everything appeared so harmonious, natural, and breathtakingly beautiful!

"It's confirmed! An ability! I'm a person with an ability now!"

After testing for a long time, Marcus finally understood how his ability worked: as long as he concentrated and silently thought of what he now called "aquatic vision," he could see the seabed, within a radius of about fifty meters.

As long as he didn't want to see the seabed, the image would disappear immediately.

"Hahaha! This time I'm really going to get rich!"

Marcus excitedly switched between the scenes, constantly testing his newfound superpower!

He looked around, and after confirming no one was nearby, he couldn't resist raising his arms and shouting: "I will become the new master of the seas!"

His voice was filled with pride and excitement, even a slight tremor, as if he had already become a legendary sea captain!

Calming himself down, Marcus cast his gaze towards the distant sea, deciding to try his ability one more time before heading back.

As far as his eyes could see, at the very edge of the reef area, a woman was struggling desperately in the water.

He was greatly startled. Upon closer observation, it was a real person, a real person on the verge of drowning!

"Holy shit!"

Marcus quickly took off his clothes, pants, and shoes. He sprinted towards the edge of the reef area. Although he was born in a landlocked region, his hometown also had rivers and alpine lakes, and he had exercised since childhood, so he was an excellent swimmer!

When he reached the reef edge near the woman, he didn't blindly jump in to save her immediately. Instead, he first used his aquatic vision, activating his ability to observe the environment.

In the scene, he found that the seawater here was only about one and a half meters deep, the seabed was relatively flat, and the danger level was zero.

He carefully jumped into the water, quickly swam to the woman, and picked her up.

Marcus seemed calm throughout the process, but in reality, as it was his first time saving someone, he was also incredibly panicked.

At this point, the woman's consciousness was already blurry. As soon as she felt someone holding her, she clung on like a drowning person grasping a lifeline, desperately grabbing Marcus's arm and kicking her legs wildly.

Once she had something to hold onto, her hands changed from grabbing to embracing, and her legs tightly wrapped around Marcus's waist. She was constantly making the rescue operation more difficult.

After a struggle, Marcus finally managed to control the woman.

[A small piece of knowledge for all you esteemed readers: if you must perform a water rescue, there are a few principles to follow:

1: Approach the drowning person from behind, supporting their head or armpit to bring them out of the water, avoiding being pulled or entangled by them.

2: If the drowning person struggles violently, wait until their strength is exhausted before attempting the rescue.

The core principle is to prioritize the rescuer's own safety; never blindly jump into the water.]

In this intense struggle underwater, both participants sustained injuries. Marcus had several scratches on his body from the desperate struggle.

The final outcome was that the female participant completely lost consciousness and stopped struggling.

Marcus took the opportunity to carry the woman onto a large, flat reef. Looking at the unconscious woman lying flat on the reef, he quickly recalled the emergency first aid procedures he had learned in university and began to operate.

The first step was, of course, artificial respiration. He checked her airway and began the procedure carefully.

Since it was his first time performing it, his movements were not skilled, so he had to focus intently on getting the technique right.

He composed himself and immediately began the second step: cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Marcus counted one, two, three, pressing firmly on the woman's chest to help restart her heart.

Next, he alternated between artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

After a flurry of activity, the woman finally spat out a few mouthfuls of seawater and slowly opened her eyes, coughing and gasping for air.

She gradually regained consciousness as Marcus stepped back, giving her space to recover.

The woman coughed several more times, her breathing becoming more regular ,she tried to sit up, but she was too weak. After several unsuccessful attempts, she could only give up and remain lying down, closing her eyes.

Marcus asked with genuine concern, "Are you alright? Can you breathe properly now?"

The woman, still recovering, nodded weakly and whispered, "I'm fine now. Thank you for saving me!"
