Irina's POV
Jared's gaze shifted toward Zack, his silence telling. The tension in the room was thick enough to cut.
Zack's voice cracked like a whip. "Why the hell are you looking at me? Even if you're my guy, I can't protect you now. I warned you—do your damn job and serve the people properly."
His face twisted with barely contained rage. "You dug your own grave. Think I'm gonna pull you out? Spill it! Who's pulling your strings?"
The threat blazed in Zack's eyes—crystal clear. Cross him, and Jared's family would suffer.
Jared wasn't stupid. He caught the message loud and clear. Through gritted teeth, he muttered, "Don't know. Anonymous tip."
Hugo's fist slammed the table. "Anonymous? You moved to arrest without verifying jack shit? That's a complete violation of protocol."
No matter what Hugo threw at him next, Jared clamped up tight.
