Irina's POV
I fired off another text to Flynn: [If you can't get it done, you know there will be consequences.]
Flynn rubbed his temples on the other end. "Come on, cut me some slack here."
But he took the job anyway. Typical Flynn.
Seth was still tearing around the yard like a tiny tornado.
Vera's voice carried that familiar earnest tone. "Irina, never lose sight of why you became a doctor. We're the final lifeline for our patients. The moment we let greed cloud our judgment, what happens to them? Life trumps money. Always."
Seth crept closer to me, his hand gesture clearly saying he had no clue what Vera was talking about.
I flicked his forehead gently. "A brilliant doctor once told his students that life is sacred. As healers, we don't compromise our values."
Vera's approving nod warmed my chest. "Exactly right. The Cross family threw those principles out the window long ago."
