The outer seas of Jin'ao Island were shrouded in thick mist, the rhythmic crashing of waves sounding like the rolling of distant war drums. Red and Snow stood upon the Turtle Spirit Boat, a seemingly ordinary vessel imbued with powerful protective spells by the Turtle Spirit Mother. They had intended only to gather some rare sea herbs, yet the calm sea suddenly churned violently, and a foul, briny wind surged from the depths below.
Snow's ears pricked sharply. "Something's wrong," she muttered.
In the next instant, the waters erupted. A massive deep-sea crab demon surged forth, its carapace red as molten iron, polished over countless years in the spiritual ocean to an impenetrable hardness. Its twin claws loomed like two small mountains, each capable of splitting a ship in half with a single blow.
Red's eyes widened. "Its aura… at least Foundation Establishment level. Dangerous."
The crab demon roared and swung its claw downward, tearing a deep gash through the waves.
"Dodge!" Snow shouted.
The Spirit Boat responded as if alive, darting downward just in time. The sweeping claw narrowly missed their heads, slicing the sea and whipping saltwater against their faces.
"This thing is aggressive," Red muttered, gripping the tower in his hand. "I'll take the first strike."
He ignited the Samadhi Fire within him, flames leaping from his palms and coalescing into a twisting column of searing heat. The fire dragon shot toward the demon, steam and smoke rising as it met the sea. Yet when the inferno struck the crab demon's armored shell, only a scorched mark remained.
"The shell is too strong!" Red's brow furrowed.
"Then let me try," Snow said, raising her hypnosis staff. "It's large, but I can give it a shot!"
She leapt into the air, striking the demon's forehead with the staff. A ripple of hypnotic energy spread outward, attempting to bind the creature's mind. But the effect lasted barely three breaths before the crab demon roused in fury, roaring and slamming its claws, raising waves that struck even higher.
Snow landed back on the boat, ears twitching as the wind buffeted her. "No… it's too strong for my mind alone."
The demon lunged again, one claw smashing down toward the boat with earth-shaking force.
Red reacted quickly, placing the tower between them. The artifact expanded, acting as a shield. Sparks flew as the claw struck it, sending the tower sliding back several paces.
"It's too powerful!" Red gasped, wiping sweat from his brow.
Snow gripped his hand tightly. "Together!"
She summoned five spirit rabbits from her rabbit ring, their white forms flickering as they leapt onto the crab demon's legs, working to disrupt its balance.
Seizing the brief moment of distraction, Red drew a deep breath. The Samadhi Fire within him surged, condensing into a beam of dazzling golden flame.
"Snow! Open the path!" he shouted.
"Go!" Snow responded, directing the five spirit rabbits to pin the demon, giving him the fraction of a second he needed.
With perfect timing, Red leapt into the air, bringing both palms together. The golden flame shot forth, targeting the demon's single vulnerable point between the armored plates.
The fire burned through wind and waves, searing even the demon's impenetrable shell.
Boom!
The crab demon shrieked as its massive body toppled and slammed back into the depths. Steam and smoke rose in great plumes, the water around them turning white from the intense heat. The lingering aura of the demon dispersed swiftly into the sea.
Red fell back onto the boat, chest heaving, gasping for air. Snow supported him, her ears flicking anxiously. "You nearly burned yourself to ash!"
Red grinned through exhaustion. "But… we won."
Snow glared, yet a laugh escaped her. "Alright… you're somewhat useful after all."
The winds settled, and the sea returned to its calm mirror-like state. The two of them stood on the boat, gazing at the dissipating steam, understanding deep in their hearts that this was only a spark of the chaos to come.
The coming Divine War would bring trials fiercer, enemies stronger, and dangers far more relentless.
But at this moment, Red and Snow stood side by side, hearts united. Conquering a single giant crab demon might be a small victory, but it was the beginning of countless battles yet to unfold.
They looked out across the calmening waters, ready to face the storms of the future together, their bond and strength forged in the fire of both their training and the trials of the sea.
