Chapter 13 - Breaking the Rule of Correction

Ascendancy stopped pretending reality was flexible.

It wasn't.

It was enforced.

Aether stood within it now. Fully inside Aurelion's rewritten combat layer.

Every action he considered… was already being interpreted before it happened.

Lyra could barely stay conscious behind him.

"…He's not just controlling the space…"

"…He's controlling anticipation…"

Aether exhaled slowly.

"So I can't even move first anymore."

Aurelion's voice echoed calmly.

"First is irrelevant."

"Only approved outcomes matter."

The world snapped slightly.

And Aether's position changed without him moving.

Not teleportation. Reassignment.

Aether looked down.

"…Yeah. That's cheating."

Aurelion raised his hand.

And Ascendancy responded fully now.

The entire battlefield became a sealed equation. No randomness. No deviation. No uncertainty allowed to persist.

[OUTCOME MATRIX ACTIVE]

"ALL POSSIBLE VARIANTS REDUCED TO FINAL PATHS"

Aether felt it immediately.

Every possible choice narrowing. Every response pre-evaluated. Every future collapsing into a single enforced sequence.

Lyra shouted weakly.

"…He's removing probability itself…"

Aether clenched his fist.

"So I'm not fighting him."

"I'm fighting what hasn't happened yet."

Aurelion stepped forward again.

And reality obeyed him before motion completed.

Aether's body was forced backward. Not struck. Corrected.

As if his position had been "mistaken" and needed fixing.

He steadied himself.

Slowly.

"…This is ridiculous."

Aurelion responded.

"It is optimal."

Aether looked up.

"For who?"

Silence.

Because that variable was not in the system's current calculation range.

For the first time… Aether stopped trying to move forward.

He stopped trying to win inside the system.

And instead… observed it.

Aurelion noticed instantly.

"…What are you doing."

Aether exhaled slowly.

"You built a system that assumes movement means progress."

"But what if I stop playing inside your timeline?"

The matrix flickered.

Just slightly.

Lyra looked up.

"…Aether…"

"…What are you planning?"

Aether didn't answer her.

Not because he ignored her.

Because he was no longer responding inside the same layer of rules.

Aurelion's gaze sharpened.

"…Non-participation is not valid."

Aether smiled faintly.

"Then you're going to have a problem."

And for the first time in Ascendancy's existence…

A rule failed not because it was broken.

But because it had nothing left to apply to.

The Outcome Matrix stuttered.

Just once.

But that was enough.

And far above everything…

The Axis Throne finally declared full containment protocol.

Not as a response.

As a last resort.
