The morning light slipped through the curtains, soft against the room. Isadora sat at the edge of the bed, brushing her hair back, when her phone buzzed. Kane was buttoning his shirt, his expression steady, watching her pick it up.
She answered, her tone cautious. Emilia's voice came through, warm but tentative. "I'd like you and Kane to come for dinner tonight. Just us, a family table."
Isadora glanced at Kane, then replied evenly. "Alright, I'll be there."
Emilia hesitated before adding, "It matters to me. I want to show you I'm trying."
Isadora's tone softened. "Then we'll come." She ended the call, setting the phone aside.
Kane spoke immediately, his voice blunt. "She's inviting us now? Interesting timing."
Isadora met his gaze, calm. "She wants to prove she's serious."
