Chapter 439: The Death of Hulk and Thor
"No!" Proxima Midnight cried out in agony.
Corvus Glaive stumbled back in disbelief, staring down at the chaotic, crackling currents of electricity surging through him. He had been skewered by an axe just like that?
Fat Thor strode toward Corvus Glaive, his entire body wreathed in tens of thousands of volts of lightning.
"Die, you piece of trash!" Infuriated, Proxima Midnight hurled her golden spear, which whistled through the air toward Fat Thor's head.
Fat Thor didn't dare take the hit. He opened his right hand, and Stormbreaker—still lodged in Corvus's chest—obeyed his call and flew back into his grip.
Clang!
The lightning axe collided with the divine spear, sending blinding sparks flying and creating a powerful shockwave of energy.
Fat Thor reclaimed Stormbreaker. As he passed Heimdall, he paused briefly, lightly nudging him with his foot before charging back into the fray. Heimdall watched Fat Thor's retreating back, and in that moment, he seemed to understand something. He reached out a trembling right hand and grasped the Hofund (Bifrost Sword).
As the chaotic struggle intensified, Thanos stepped out from a dent in the wall. Surveying the wreckage, his eyes landed on the culprits at the center of the room: a chubby man and a beast who knew nothing but brute force.
The Power Stone on the Infinity Gauntlet flared once more. A surging, tide-like aura swept across the room, pressing down on everyone with enough force to make breathing difficult.
"Thanos!"
Seeing the Titan, Fat Thor stole a glance at Loki before rushing at Thanos with uncontrollable rage. Thanos, for his part, had no idea why this man was so furious with him, but he didn't care. He didn't consider Fat Thor a threat at all.
Fat Thor reached Thanos and swung Stormbreaker with everything he had, aiming straight for the Titan's head.
Bang!
Thanos raised his left hand and caught the blade of Stormbreaker mid-swing. "Who are you?"
Fat Thor's hands trembled as he gripped the handle, trying to press the axe down further, but he found Thanos's strength to be staggering. The axe wouldn't move an inch.
"Me? I'm just a fat gamer who spends his days eating and sleeping, wanting nothing but revenge every single second!" Fat Thor roared through gritted teeth.
Unfortunately, rage could not bridge the gap in power. His strength was no match for the boundless energy of the Power Stone.
"Hmph!" Thanos channeled the Stone's energy. An irresistible force blasted Fat Thor backward. He skidded across the floor, leaving a long, deep furrow in the deck as Stormbreaker fell from his hands.
"ROAR!"
Hulk was being pinned down by Cull Obsidian and Proxima Midnight, unable to break free to help his companion.
Thanos walked slowly toward Fat Thor, picking up Stormbreaker from the ground. His cold eyes looked down at the fallen warrior.
"Hahaha!" Fat Thor suddenly burst into laughter.
"Why are you laughing?" Thanos felt a sense of familiarity; the man smelled of Asgard, a scent remarkably similar to Thor's.
"I'm here to deliver a message from someone... you will never be a god... NOW!" Fat Thor shouted as soon as he finished.
"HAA!" Heimdall raised the Guardian Sword. A powerful surge of spatial energy erupted, and a rainbow beam of the Bifrost shot toward Thor and Loki, who were still grappling with Ebony Maw for the Space Stone.
"No! Heimdall!" Thor tried to stop him, but it was too late. The rainbow light enveloped Thor and Loki, pulling them away from the starship and toward the depths of the universe.
Sensing the escape, Thanos gripped Stormbreaker and, bolstered by the Power Stone, hurled the axe toward the departing light.
Inside the beam, Loki hugged Thor tightly. Seeing the axe flying toward them, he prepared to use his own body as a shield. However, Thor reacted first.
"Loki! Tell the Avengers! Thanos is coming!"
With those final words, Thor shoved Loki away. Using the recoil, he lunged toward the incoming Stormbreaker.
"No! Brother!" Loki reached out a helpless hand, but he was too late.
BOOM!
Amidst the explosion, Loki saw Thor's final smile before his eyes slowly closed.
On the Starship
Watching the two figures disappear, Thanos turned his attention back to Fat Thor and Hulk. Fat Thor was being held in place by Ebony Maw's telekinesis, while Hulk continued to struggle against Cull Obsidian and Proxima Midnight.
Thanos walked over to the wounded Corvus Glaive, picked up his dropped glaive, and hurled it at the struggling Hulk. The weapon flew like a lightning-fast arrow, piercing the void.
Pfft!
The blade transfixed Hulk through the back. Hulk felt the agonizing pain in his chest and back. As he turned to see his attacker, an enraged Proxima Midnight kicked him to the ground.
"Hulk..." Hulk reached out a hand weakly, but his arm soon fell limp. He lay there, dying.
Thanos twisted his chin, grabbed Cull Obsidian's axe, and swung it down toward Hulk's head.
Thwack!
Hulk's head rolled across the floor, but strangely, there was no blood.
Thanos frowned. He walked over to Fat Thor. "What is the meaning of this?"
"Hahaha... I am destiny." Fat Thor knelt on the floor, held fast by telekinetic restraints.
Slash!
Without another word, Thanos decapitated Fat Thor. Again, there was no blood. As Thanos stood there in confusion, the bodies of Fat Thor and Hulk transformed back into small wooden dolls.
"This is...?" Ebony Maw picked up the Fat Thor doll, realizing it was truly just a toy.
Thanos didn't speak, but his face was a mask of pure rage.
"In the presence of your radiant majesty, we are humbled. No one has ever possessed such power... two Infinity Stones in the hand of one man." Ebony Maw understood the Titan's mood. He immediately took the Space Stone he had secured and presented it to Thanos with a bow.
Seeing the Tesseract and hearing the praise, Thanos's expression softened slightly. He removed his helmet and crushed the Tesseract in his bare hand. CRACK!
The cube shattered. With a gentle breath, Thanos blew away the debris, revealing the brilliant blue Space Stone. He placed it into the second slot of the Gauntlet.
VROOOM—
A visible wave of energy rippled out into space. At that moment, Thanos felt an even greater influx of power. If only two stones felt like this, what would it be like to have them all?
"There are two more stones on Earth. Go and find them for me, my children. Bring them to Titan." Thanos still needed to take Gamora to find the Soul Stone himself.
"Father, we will not fail you!" The Black Order knelt on the ground. Corvus Glaive was not dead; he was merely heavily wounded. Self-healing was one of his abilities, but more importantly, he kept half his soul in his glaive. To kill him, one would have to destroy the weapon.
Thanos turned his gaze toward the depths of space—toward Earth.
Earth
Having finished testing his Nano-Armor, Silas used the Horse Talisman to instantly clear his fatigue. Behind him lay the Rhino, unconscious. He had lost in the end, defeated by the various hidden functions of the suit.
"It's night already..." Silas looked up at the stars and left the savannah, heading to his meeting with Misty.
At Misty's Front Door
"Silas!" Misty called out. A portal suddenly opened beside her, revealing Silas standing within.
"Come on, I want to show you something," Silas waved. Misty stepped in with a grin. Inside the house, her father, watched from the window in disbelief. "This... this..."
"This what?! Get in here!" Lydia grabbed him by the ear and dragged him back into the room.
The New York Sanctum
Doctor Strange, who had been looking forward to dinner with Wong, felt a sudden shift in the mystic energies. His face fell. A portal opened in front of him.
"Long time no see, Doctor," Silas greeted him with a smile.
"I'd prefer if it were 'never see again'," Strange replied, rolling his eyes.
Misty looked around curiously; it really did look like a wizard's sanctuary.
"So, are we still going to dinner?" Wong asked.
"Of course. He's paying," Strange pointed at Silas. Silas shrugged; he needed a favor from Strange anyway, so a meal was a small price to pay.
At that moment, a beam of rainbow light crashed through the ceiling!
