Chapter 2 - Volume 2: Flying Swords, and Other Terrible Decisions

Volume 2 — Peach Blossoms, Flying Swords, and Other Terrible Decisions

Lin Feng's first official mission as a disciple of the Peach Blossom Sect was simple: deliver a letter. No fighting, no monster hunting, no dramatic leaps between mountain peaks. Just hand a scroll to a friendly village elder.

Naturally, everything went wrong.

First, the "friendly village elder" turned out to be a retired cultivator whose temper was so explosive that the ground cracked whenever he sneezed. Second, the letter contained a marriage proposal—from Caiyi's master—to the elder's granddaughter. And third… the granddaughter took one look at Lin Feng and declared, "I accept HIM instead!"

Caiyi, who had accompanied Lin Feng "to prevent him from embarrassing the Sect," nearly unsheathed her sword.

"She can't marry you!" she shouted.

"Why not?" Lin Feng asked.

"Because—because you're an idiot! And… and you owe us a lifetime of manual labor!"

The granddaughter insisted Lin Feng duel the local suitors to "prove his worth." Lin Feng protested, explaining he wasn't interested in marriage or fighting or being punched. Especially being punched.

Unfortunately, one of the challengers was a young cultivator wearing robes of the Crimson Fang Clan—the same clan responsible for both the Peach Blossom Sect's downfall and the destruction of Lin Feng's family.

The moment Lin Feng saw the emblem, his laziness evaporated.

The duel began. Lin Feng dodged, stumbled, tripped, accidentally stepped on his opponent's foot, and somehow triggered a burst of peach energy that launched the Crimson Fang cultivator into a haystack.

"Victory!" the villagers cheered.

"It was an accident!" Lin Feng protested.

"It still counts," Caiyi said, smirking despite herself.

That night, as they rested beneath glowing peach lanterns, Caiyi admitted, "You fought well. Even if it was… chaotic."

Lin Feng gazed at the sky. "If defeating them helps me get revenge, then I'll keep fighting—even if I have no idea what I'm doing."

Caiyi looked at him for a long moment. "Then I'll help you. Not for the Sect. For you."

Lin Feng's heart skipped. This was definitely not due to cultivation.

Little did they know: by defeating a Crimson Fang disciple, Lin Feng had drawn the attention of a powerful enemy who would not tolerate humiliation.

A storm was coming.
