Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The Alpha's Claim

The morning after the catastrophic truth spilled out in the Oracle Moon garden, Lyrana walked onto the grounds of Elysium Academy.

She was bruised, sore, and still reeling from the devastating, passionate kiss she had shared with her tormentor-turned-confidante.

She had spent the previous evening at the Oracle Moon manor, where Queen Anya, realizing the severity of the girl's injuries after Kael had quietly demanded a private examination, insisted on calling the royal physician.

Lyrana's fracture was expertly set, and her bruises were treated with high-grade regenerative salve. She left the manor late, a heavy blanket of royal secrecy draped over the entire incident.

Now, as she walked the halls, the change was visible. Her uniform was clean, her arm was expertly splinted, and though her face was pale, she carried herself with a new, quiet dignity, buoyed by the heavy truth she shared with the Crown Prince.

The reaction of the student body was instantaneous and total.

Whispers immediately broke out. Students stopped in their tracks, their shock palpable.

They had all heard the rumors: that Rhys's 'lesson' had been brutal, that the "little fish" had been severely dealt with, and that Kael had nearly killed his Beta over it. They had expected her to be gone, expelled, or too terrified to return.

Instead, here was Lyrana, walking with a fierce resolution, her arm visibly broken.

She ignored the staring crowds, making her way to her locker. It was a struggle. With her left arm immobilized, she fumbled clumsily to open the lock and secure her stack of heavy textbooks.

She was so focused on the simple task that she didn't hear him approach, but she felt his presence immediately, the familiar wave of overwhelming Alpha scent, now laced with a raw, protective heat.

Kael stood beside her. He looked different, too. His face was set in a hard, almost lethal expression, devoid of the sneer she was used to. He was radiating a warning to the entire hallway.

Lyrana flinched, instinctively pulling her good arm back. She hadn't seen him since the kiss, and the memory of their embrace was dizzying.

She had resolved to keep her distance from him at school; their association, however tender now, was too dangerous.

"You shouldn't be here, Kael," she muttered, not looking at him, struggling to shove a chemistry text into the narrow locker slot. "It will make things worse for you. I can manage."

Before she could stop him, Kael reached out. He didn't take her books; instead, he gently grasped her good, uninjured right hand.

His touch was firm, warm, and entirely proprietary.

Lyrana's breath caught. She stopped moving, her eyes wide with shock. This was not the guarded, subtle torment she was used to. This was a bold, unmistakable claim, performed right in the middle of the crowded hallway.

"Don't be ridiculous," Kael stated, his voice low, audible only to her, yet somehow carrying the weight of a public decree. He took her hand and intertwined their fingers, his immense palm engulfing hers.

Then, with his other arm, he casually swept up the stack of books Lyrana had been struggling with.

"You won't manage," Kael corrected, his golden eyes sweeping over the astonished faces in the hall. "And you will not struggle. You are my responsibility now, Lyrana. And anyone who touches you again will answer to me."

He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, a private reassurance hidden within the public dominance. He turned, pulling Lyrana along with him, forcing her to walk beside him.

The hallway was silent. Students watched in stunned disbelief as the ruthless Crown Prince, the feared Alpha, walked hand-in-hand with the battered, low-magic nymph, carrying her books like a dedicated servant.

It was a display of affection that defied their entire social structure.

They walked side-by-side toward their first class, Lyrana feeling a dizzying mix of fear, terror, and an exhilarating rush of undeniable protection.

She was the enemy, but she was now claimed, and by the Alpha himself.

"But Kael," Lyrana whispered, unable to keep the concern from her voice, "Rhys saw us. This changes everything for you."

Kael didn't look at her. He kept his gaze fixed ahead, maintaining the powerful facade. "Rhys is currently recovering from a severe case of mistaken identity," he stated simply.

"And yes, it changes everything. For both of us. You will not hide, and you will not break. We walk together."

They entered the History of Magic classroom, the same place where Kael had been consumed by guilt the day before, hand-in-hand, silencing the room instantly. The battle for the Oracle Moon Alpha's heart had begun, and the entire Academy was now a hostile witness.
