Chapter 4 Hiashi Hyuga's Intentions

"Huala la~, Huala la~"

The sound of a gentle breeze rustling the leaves softly echoed outside the house.

Inside the house, after Hyuga Gen settled Gekkō Hayate, he and Hyuga Hiashi sat opposite each other at the table.

Hyuga Gen looked at the middle-aged man before him with some restraint, remaining silent.

To be honest, he truly hadn't expected Hyuga Hiashi to come looking for him.

After all, the disparity in their statuses was evident, giving him an ominous premonition.

Besides, if he needed to find him, couldn't he have done it during the day? Seriously!

Hyuga Gen fiercely complained internally, but his expression remained unchanged.

"Gen, you should be fifteen this year, right?"

Hyuga Hiashi lightly coughed, taking the lead in breaking the silent atmosphere.

"Yes, Clan Chief."

Hyuga Gen was slightly stunned and replied briefly. He decided to speak and act as little as possible.

He didn't know why the Clan Chief was seeking him out, but it was always safer to be cautious.

The current Hyuga Gen had no energy to think about anything else; the kekkei genkai disease was his greatest worry.

Moreover, he wasn't Hyuga Neji; without that blood relationship, he didn't have the luxury of acting recklessly.

"I heard about what happened today. I didn't expect it to be so fast."

Hyuga Hiashi spoke first, his tone carrying a hint of regret.

"Mm."

Hyuga Gen replied flatly, his expression calm.

"Hmm?"

Hearing Hyuga Gen's reply, Hyuga Hiashi raised an eyebrow slightly.

He had intended to observe Hyuga Gen's reaction to his illness, allowing him to follow up with appropriate words.

His emotions were already prepared, but this reaction was somewhat unexpected, leaving some words stuck in his throat.

""

This guy has ulterior motives!

This kid is hard to deal with!

The two stared at each other, and the air instantly fell silent.

"Ahem... The Family is truly powerless regarding your illness. I hope you can understand."

After a moment of silence, Hyuga Hiashi spoke again, attempting to ease the awkward atmosphere.

"I understand my condition, Clan Chief. Thank you for your concern."

Hyuga Gen showed a faint bitter smile, his tone calm and devoid of any dissatisfaction.

Just kidding, as a member of the branch Family, he, Lord Gen, had always lived an honest life.

How could he be dissatisfied?

Who would dare to be dissatisfied? Who would dare to be dissatisfied in front of the Main Family?

"That's good. Did the hospital mention how much time you have left?"

Hyuga Hiashi naturally didn't know Hyuga Gen's inner thoughts and continued to ask.

"The doctor didn't say. Perhaps the kekkei genkai disease is too unique, making it impossible to determine."

Hyuga Gen leaned forward slightly, straightened his posture a bit, and became serious.

He noticed Hyuga Hiashi's tone; the Clan Chief was probably preparing to discuss serious matters.

Sure enough, after hearing Hyuga Gen's reply, Hyuga Hiashi sat up straight and spoke slowly:

"Although saying this now might seem heartless, there are some things I would like to consult Lord Gen about."

"Please speak, if there is anything I can help with."

Hyuga Gen's heart tightened slightly upon hearing this, but the expression on his face did not change at all.

"I want you to be the teacher for my daughter, to instruct her in the study of the Gentle Fist."

"Ah? You want me to be Young Miss Hinata's teacher?"

Hyuga Gen showed surprise, but his heart was surging with shock.

Asking me to be a teacher, and with such certainty... did this guy notice something?

When?

All sorts of doubts surfaced in his mind, but Hyuga Gen quickly forced them down.

His strength was rarely displayed to outsiders, but Hyuga Hiashi in front of him could not be considered an outsider.

After all, he is the Family's Clan Chief; some things, especially those happening within the clan, simply couldn't be hidden from him.

In that case, was he noticed while Cultivating in secret?

Fortunately, I have always been cautious and have never publicly expressed any dissatisfaction.

Plus, since he is a sickly person whose life won't last long, no one should be bored enough to try and cause him trouble.

Thinking this, Hyuga Gen breathed a slight sigh of relief.

"No, not Hinata's teacher, but Hanabi's teacher."

Hyuga Hiashi noticed Hyuga Gen's constantly changing expression, but he didn't pay it any mind.

"The second young miss Hanabi's teacher?"

"But Clan Chief, there should be more suitable people within the clan than me, and my illness..."

Hyuga Gen was confused. Neither the person to be taught nor he, the teacher, seemed like the best candidates.

Yet Hyuga Hiashi insisted on doing this, which left him somewhat bewildered.

"Yes, I am asking you to be Hanabi's teacher."

"As far as I know, your illness is not contagious, so that is not an issue."

Hyuga Hiashi's tone was firm, suggesting that he was the only suitable person.

Seeing his own Clan Chief's expression, Hyuga Gen, though reluctant, could only nod.

"Since the Clan Chief believes I can do it, then I will reluctantly give it a try."

"However, as you know, what I have is not complete. After all, the Gentle Fist includes..."

Hyuga Gen didn't finish his sentence directly, but he believed Hyuga Hiashi would understand.

The branch Family's Gentle Fist is incomplete; only the Main Family possesses the methods to Cultivate Rotation and the Twin Lion Fists.

It must be known that after losing 'confidence' in Hyuga Hinata, Hyuga Hanabi is currently being raised as the Main Family successor.

Therefore, a novice like him could not be qualified as a teacher.

Hyuga Gen hoped his words would make Hyuga Hiashi retreat from the difficulty.

Unfortunately, Hyuga Hiashi seemed to have been prepared; he pulled out two scrolls directly from his clothes.

"You don't need to worry about that. These are Ninjutsu scrolls, which record the methods to Cultivate them."

"I hope you can practice them well and then teach them to Hanabi."

"This..."

Looking at the Ninjutsu scrolls Hyuga Hiashi pulled out, Hyuga Gen's pupils contracted.

After pondering briefly, Hyuga Gen finally reached out and took them.

"Alright, since the Clan Chief trusts me, I will accept."

Since he couldn't escape, he might as well enjoy it.

Alas, this is life... Hyuga Hiashi nodded contentedly at Hyuga Gen's actions, then his expression became a little distracted.

In truth, in his heart, Hyuga Neji was the best candidate to be his daughter's teacher.

After all, the Bloodline connection between them was closer, which was an unparalleled advantage.

But after what happened nine years ago, Neji's attitude...

Thinking of this, his fist unconsciously clenched, then slowly loosened.

"During this time, familiarize yourself with the new Moves. I will have Hanabi come find you after the Chunin Exams conclude."

"And... pay more attention to recuperating your body. I will look into whether there are any other solutions for your illness."

After giving a few instructions, Hyuga Hiashi cut off his internal thoughts and stood up immediately.

"Yes, Clan Chief. Travel safely."

Hyuga Gen watched Hyuga Hiashi leave and gently let out a breath.

Looking at the two scrolls in his hand, his brow furrowed tightly.

It was impossible for Hyuga Hiashi to make him a teacher and give him the Main Family's Secret Manual without reason.

But what could someone who was about to die possibly have that was being sought after? Hyuga Gen truly couldn't figure it out.

Even if he had discovered his talent and strength, it shouldn't be this way.

"Wait, someone who is about to die fits the Main Family's criteria..."

Hyuga Gen thought of a possibility, and his expression became complicated.

However, he quickly suppressed the thought; some things were better left unexamined.

Turning around, he glanced at Gekkō Hayate, who was still unconscious in bed, and Hyuga Gen's expression grew firm once more.

Taking out the meat prepared daily, Hyuga Gen pushed open the back door.

"Hiss~, Hiss~, Hiss~"

The snakes filling the courtyard began to stir restlessly in their cages, seemingly sensing the smell of food.

A vast expanse of white, the mere sight of it sent shivers down one's spine.
