The Untainted

Chapter 12

"You did what?!!!"

Basit's voice echoed inside the car, sharp and disbelieving.

Ridwan flinched so hard he almost hit his head on the window.

"Sorry, Akhi… it's just that… I—I…" He rubbed his forehead and then smacked his own mouth. "I only wanted to share the good news."

"Good news?" Basit repeated slowly, his teeth clenched so tightly his jaw twitched. "Good… news?"

Ridwan swallowed.

"Who told you to inform her?" Basit burst out. "Ya Allah! You have finished me, Ridwan. Finished! She'll be coming tonight. Wallahi, she will come!"

Ridwan groaned and leaned back against his seat. "We are both finished, bro. Don't forget she's coming for me too."

Basit shot him a deadly glare. "That's good for you. But why do I have a sister that turns to an investigative journalist whenever she hears a tiny piece of information?, why do I have a sister that makes me panic every time she says she's visiting? Can someone explain that to me?"

Ridwan tried not to laugh.

"Can you just tell her I'm not around?" Ridwan asked hopefully.

Basit turned slowly, dangerously. "You dare."

Ridwan shrank back.

"You caused this. So you will face it like a man."

"Yes, sir…" Ridwan muttered, pouting like a scolded child.

They continued grumbling at each other until the car drove into Basit's compound. The engine went silent.

Neither of them moved.

They both stared at the apartment door like it's a military zone.....like soldiers about to enter a battlefield.

"You go and check," Basit said finally.

Ridwan scoffed. "It's your apartment. You go and check it yourself."

"You caused it. So go and look."

"She's your sister. You go."

Five minutes passed.

Five whole minutes of two grown men arguing about who should open a door.

Finally, Basit sighed dramatically and stepped out of the car. He shot Ridwan a warning glare.

"Follow me."

Ridwan reluctantly obeyed.

As they approached the door—

Basit froze.

The door wasn't locked.

It was slightly ajar.

"Oh no…" Ridwan whispered behind him, his voice trembling. "She's inside."

Basit felt goosebumps spread across his arms.

He inhaled deeply.

Be strong. You are a man.

Before he could push the door fully—

It swung open.

"Why are you just coming in?" a female voice rang out confidently. "Or were you planning to sleep in the car?"

Faridat stood there, arms folded, one brow raised.

The two "rabbits," as she liked to call them, looked like they were about to bolt.

"Or you don't intend to come in again, Bros?" she added sweetly.

Basit forced a smile so wide it hurt.

"Ahhh… no, no, dear sister. As-salamu alaikum warahmatullah," he greeted nervously. "Just surprised to see you."

"Wa alaikum salam," she replied, unimpressed.

Basit began firing questions rapidly without breathing.

"How are you? When did you get here? How have you been? You didn't tell me you were coming today? How is your studies? And when are you going back?"

Ridwan coughed loudly to hide his laughter.

Faridat blinked slowly.

"Are you done?" she asked calmly.

Basit swallowed.

"Because you didn't even wait for one answer before asking when I'm going back."

Ridwan burst out laughing.

"Ahhh, Basit!" he teased. "You couldn't even pretend properly."

Basit elbowed him sharply.

Faridat stepped inside and walked past them, inspecting the living room like a military commander checking a barrack.

"So," she said casually, "I decided to surprise you."

"Yes, we can see that," Basit muttered under his breath.

She turned sharply. "What did you say?"

"I said… it's a pleasant surprise!" he corrected quickly.

Ridwan was enjoying this far too much.

Faridat dropped her bag on the couch and turned to Ridwan.

"And you."

Ridwan straightened immediately.

"You told me the good news."

He smiled nervously. "Yes…"

"That your friend has finally found a girl"

Basit shot Ridwan another glare.

Ridwan scratched his neck. "It just slipped."

Faridat smirked. "Good. Because I was bored in my hostel."

Basit blinked. "Hostel?"

"Yes," she replied casually. "Didn't I mention? I transferred here this semester."

Silence.

Basit's soul nearly left his body.

"You transferred… here?" he repeated faintly.

"Yes, brother dear." She smiled innocently. "I'll be around more often."

Ridwan tried so hard not to laugh that tears formed in his eyes.

Basit glared at him.

"This is your fault."

Faridat crossed her arms again. "What exactly is my fault?"

"Nothing!" both boys chorused immediately.

She eyed them suspiciously.

Then suddenly her expression softened slightly.

"I only came because I heard something important about my brother," she said quietly.

Ridwan and Basit exchanged a glance.

"Important?" Basit asked carefully.

Faridat nodded.

"I want to see this girl."

Basit froze.

Ridwan coughed.

"What girl?" Basit asked too quickly.

Faridat smiled slowly.

"The one that seems to be disturbing my brother's sleep.

Ridwan's laughter died instantly.

Basit's heart skipped.

Because somehow…

The air shifted.

This wasn't just about teasing anymore.

It's about a genuine curiosity of a sister.

And tonight faridat was determined to see her.

...- you can't meet her faridat. She doesn't know about my feelings for her. If Rihannat finds out, she will stay far away from me. She treats relationships like plague.

The three stood by the door. Basit and Ridwan unwilling to step in but have no other choice, they are in dilemma.

Will Faridat meet Rihannat?

And what will happen when she does?

Ahhhh🤣😂 basit. See how he fired her questions without waiting for answers only to ask when are you going back?!😂
