Ficool

Chapter 32 - .

The rest of the day passes too smoothly.

That's what makes it dangerous.

Prince and Lyrelle walk out of school together, closer than they've been in weeks. Not loud about it. Not dramatic. Just fingers brushing, shoulders leaning in, shared smiles that feel earned.

People notice.

Whispers trail behind them.

Kyra notices too.

She keeps her head down, Jake's hoodie still wrapped around her, but her chest feels tight. Every time she sees Lyrelle laugh with Prince, something sharp twists inside her. Not jealousy. Something worse.

Guilt.

Prince doesn't look at Kyra.

Not once.

And that's what scares her.

Summer talks too much on the walk home, filling the silence with jokes, bumping into Zyren on purpose, calling him annoying when he smirks back. It's familiar. Safe. The way she's always been when she doesn't want to think.

Zyren lets her. He always does.

Ryan walks beside them, quieter than usual, hands shoved deep in his pockets. Georgina's face keeps flashing in his mind, but he pushes it away. He's done letting the past dictate him.

Thorian stays slightly behind with Kaida. Not touching. Not hovering. Just there. Like he promised.

"You don't have to carry it alone," he says casually, like he's talking about homework.

Kaida nods, eyes forward. She never says thank you. She never has to.

At Lyrelle's house, they scatter into the living room, shoes kicked off, backpacks dropped. Someone turns on the TV but no one watches it.

Prince sits beside Lyrelle. This time, he does take her hand fully.

She looks at him, searching. "You're really here, right?"

He meets her gaze. No jokes. No charm. Just truth. "I am."

Kyra looks away.

Jake notices. He always notices.

"You good?" he whispers.

She nods too quickly. "Yeah. Just tired."

Lie.

The smallest kind.

Kaida's phone vibrates.

Just once.

She stiffens.

Doesn't pick it up.

Good.

Minutes pass. Then more.

Nothing happens.

Summer sprawls on the floor, scrolling through her phone. "Why does nothing ever happen when I'm ready for drama?"

Zyren snorts. "That's usually when it hits."

As if summoned, every phone in the room lights up at once.

No sound.

No vibration.

Just light.

The same screen.

The same words.

"OBSERVATION PHASE COMPLETE."

Lyrelle's grip tightens around Prince's hand.

Jake stands immediately. "No. Nope. We're not doing this again."

Prince exhales slowly, jaw tightening. He doesn't speak.

The next line appears.

"LOVE REBUILT."

"GUILT UNRESOLVED."

Kyra's heart slams into her ribs.

Kaida finally speaks. "It's not accusing," she says quietly. "It's warning."

Another line fades in.

"ONE TRUTH ALREADY EXISTS."

"IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE ASKED."

Prince's breath stutters.

Just barely.

Lyrelle doesn't notice.

Kyra does.

Her phone slips from her hand and hits the floor.

Jake looks down at it, then at her face. "Kyra?"

She shakes her head, panic rising. "It's nothing. I just—"

Kaida's phone buzzes again. Louder this time.

The final message appears.

"WHEN THE LIE RETURNS TO THE SURFACE."

"IT WILL NOT COME ALONE."

The screens go dark.

Silence crashes over the room.

Prince stands abruptly. "We're not letting it control us."

Lyrelle nods, trusting. "We won't."

Summer scoffs, trying to sound normal. "Yeah, well, it can try."

Zyren watches her carefully.

Thorian looks at Kaida. "What lie?"

Kaida doesn't answer.

She looks at Kyra instead.

And Kyra knows.

The game hasn't forgotten.

It's just circling.

Waiting for the moment when love feels strongest.

Because that's when the truth hurts most.
