Zayne froze.
The Singularity Ring was a storage device, but unless he actively triggered it, nothing inside was supposed to just fall out. Puzzled, he reached down and felt around the floor until his fingers brushed against a soft, silk-like pouch.
He realized instantly what it was—the seven brocade pouches Astrachior had left for him.
Astrachior had told him these pouches would open automatically at pivotal moments in his life. The first had opened when he was debating whether to kill Double J. Now, the second had revealed itself.
Zayne took a deep breath. He was dying to see what was inside, but there was a glaring problem.
He was currently supposed to be blind.
His mouth twitched. He stuffed the pouch back into the Singularity Ring, spun around, and retreated into the bathroom, abruptly dismissing the maids who were waiting to assist him. He didn't care how powerful the hidden observer was; surely they wouldn't be watching him while he was on the toilet.
