Chapter 14 - 14

Three more weeks had gone by.

No calls or daily chats from Honey.

Still stuck inside with no energy to see the outside.

Most of the time, I keep having repeated thoughts on how foolish I was to have let my friendship end there.

I just couldn't explain to her why I actually refused to leave.

The stalker already knows where I live, so what's the point?

Anytime clips of those memories flash into my mind, I always come to a conclusion that the stalker already knows everything and worse – my every movement.

First was the parking lot and the elevator incident.

Then the first break into my apartment then when I wasn't around and came back late from work.

Then at the mall.

They know everything.

Why me then?

I don't remember ever getting affiliated with anyone.

I just don't know.

Letting out an exhausted sigh, I climbed out of my bed, still in my nightwear and made my way towards the kitchen.

Now, what can I have for lunch?

Ransacking through my cabinets, I was able to find some basic ingredients for pasta and whipped up one immediately.

Looks like I'll be having another grocery shopping.

Lately I've just been tired.

Drained from the fear of being attacked again.

Or worse, someone breaking into my house.

I made my way to the living room and turned on the television.

For the past weeks, I have been using the television as a coping mechanism.

No fear or whatever.

Just myself and my couch, and a plate of spicy pasta.

"What's wrong kira? You haven't been around in a while." Leah's voice sounded through, so calm with an edge of worry in her tone.

I sighed and rubbed my forehead, I didn't know how to start or from where to start explaining to her everything that happened.

My phone rang not so long ago and to my surprise Leah was the caller.

I never informed any of my coworkers about any of this that had happened for the past weeks now.

Apart from Ben–of course.

" I'll be coming back soon…or maybe….not."

I didn't know how to tell her how I've spoken with Ben about my resignation.

"You still didn't answer the question, Kira. I don't know what might have happened but working here without you feels off."

"It just doesn't feel the same." She added.

I had nothing else to say.

Everything right now just felt too heavy for me.

I miss Samantha.

I miss my work colleagues.

And most especially,

I miss my old life, not running around just to find safety.

From who?

"Hello…Kira, is everything okay?"

Leah's voice went through the line, snapping me out of my thoughts.

Dragging myself to my room, I slumped on the bed with Leah still on the phone.

I still hadn't replied to her.

"You know Leah…everything has just been..not okay." I started.

"First, I had to leave my old apartment just to run from a suspected murderer after me." I quickly wiped away a string of tears I didn't know was there from my cheeks.

"I sure took permission for a break from work but haven't given any response on my return, and now my friendship is ruined." I sobbed my heart out on the phone, sniffing and wiping my tears on my pillows, not caring about how messy I looked.

Leah kept calm, she didn't interrupt my rant.

She just made her presence known.

"I had no idea that you passed through all these…I..just know I'm here for you." Her voice cut through the silence.

I hummed in response and muttered out a small thank you.

"And about work, instead of just quitting you can continue and maybe take permission from Ben to work from home." She suggested.

I don't even know why I never thought of that.

"Thanks for that idea, I'll make sure to call Ben later."

We had a little chat for a while before ending the call.

It felt like a burden had been taken off my chest.

Not wasting much time, I quite sent an email to the company – or Ben to be exact.

"Dear Mr Ben

I'm writing this email requesting your permission to work from home. From what has happened so far, I don't think I can keep on coming up for work physically due to this distance from my new house. Please I would request for a job as a remote worker for the company instead of a physical employee.

YoursFaithfully

 Kira"

*Sent.

This should be enough right?

I don't know what I just know, I sure hope it gets to him.

With a shrug, I made my way to the bathroom to have a shower.

Anyways the deed had been done.

***

I just kept rereading the response I got on my email.

It was actually approved of.

I had that feeling of sheer happiness crept in me after reading the message.

I immediately grabbed Moonie and squeezed her cheeks.

I'm not so sure she liked it, from the way she hissed and slapped her paw on my face.

'Ah.

She just leapt out of my arms and ran to the door.

Bet someone's cranky.

I will go to the store tomorrow morning and get some food items and cute toys for her.

Maybe she won't be cranky anymore.

Night crept in faster than I thought.

I served Mo

onie her dinner and had some oatmeal, not really in the mood to cook anything and snuggled myself to sleep.

In hopes of a bright morning tomorrow.
