The cliffs in Newella had done their job. They'd slowed everything down and given Aaron and Cameron space to just exist. But real life always finds a way back in. And the first thing waiting for them was something Aaron couldn't avoid anymore.
The Blackwood family estate felt nothing like the Sterling mansion. Where the Sterlings' home was warm and full of life, this place felt cold and perfect, glass, sharp lines, and silence everywhere. Like a museum where no one was allowed to touch anything. Cameron held Aaron's hand tightly as they walked up to the front door.
"They know about the engagement," Aaron said quietly. "They're not emotional people. This won't be a celebration. Think of it more like a review meeting."
Cameron nodded and took a deep breath. The door opened before they could knock.
