Jayden's blade cut through corrupted flesh. Black lightning burned essence.

His sixth vial filled. Green light pulsing.
"That's ten today." Marcus crushed a wolf's skull. Stone gauntlets dripping. "We're getting faster."
"We need to." Jayden checked his stats.

Seven days of hunting. Twenty eight units gained total.
Not enough.
Elena froze three serpents mid strike. Her blade shattered them. "The beasts are adapting. They're hunting in packs now."
"Good." Zain crushed the last one. "Makes them easier to find."
Cinna healed Marcus's shoulder. Deep claw marks sealing. "Corruption's rising. We're at 8% average."
Jayden felt it. The weight in his chest. Essence fighting constantly.
"We finish the route. Six more hours. Then purify."
They moved deeper.
The corruption thickened. Trees pulsed with wrong essence. Ground cracked and bleeding.
Something big moved ahead.
Jayden's eye flared.

"A rank." His voice cut through. "Everyone back."
The wolf emerged. Fifteen feet tall. Three heads. Essence radiating corruption.
It saw them.

Marcus took the impact. Earth Titan Armor cracked. He flew backward.
Elena's ice shattered on contact. Zain's stone couldn't pierce its hide.
Jayden Shadow Stepped. Blade aimed for the neck.
The wolf twisted. Too fast. Caught him mid teleport.
Jaws clamped. His arm.
Pain exploded.
Black lightning erupted instinctively. The wolf released. Howled.
Jayden landed. Blood pouring. Regeneration kicked in. Slower than usual.
Corruption in the wound.
"JAYDEN!" Cinna's healing hit him. Green light fighting black.
The wolf recovered. All three heads focused.
Prepared to finish them.
"No." Jayden stood. His eye blazing full crimson.

He hesitated.
The wolf lunged.

The wolf fell.

"Shit." Marcus reached him. "You okay?"
"Fine." He wasn't. Everything hurt. Corruption spreading.
"We need to go back." Elena's voice was hard. "Now."
They retreated. Fast.
Kane's purification chamber glowed.
Jayden sat inside. Essence burning away corruption.

Not perfect. But better.
"You used Enrage." Kane's tone was flat.
"Had to."
"Enrage accelerates corruption. Each use makes it worse." Kane pulled up charts. "You're at 9% now. Use it three more times, you'll hit 30%. That's Wanderer territory."
"Then I won't use it."
"You will. When you have no choice." Kane leaned forward. "The A rank essence. Absorb it. It'll push you higher. But you need control."
Jayden drank the purified vial.
Power surged.

Seven units each. Massive jump.
"Warlord territory." Kane nodded. "Keep this pace, you'll hit fifty across the board in two weeks."
"Lucian?"
"Still hunting. Ash moved deeper into the Scarred Zones." Kane marked the map. "Reports say there's a portal forming. Demons starting to leak through."
"How many?"
"Three confirmed. Low rank. But more coming."
Jayden stood. Testing his new strength. Everything felt sharper.
"We keep training. Two more weeks. Then we find him."
"Agreed."
Day fourteen. The growth was exponential.

The team was transforming.

Jayden used Enrage twice more. Necessary. Controlled.

Approaching dangerous levels.
On day twenty, Kane called them in.
"Lucian's moving. He found Ash's portal location." Kane's expression was grim. "You're out of time."
"We're not ready." Marcus said what everyone thought.
"You never will be. Not for this." Kane pulled up essence readings. "The portal's almost complete. Once it opens, demons flood through. Ash becomes unstoppable."
Jayden checked his stats.

Not Warlord. Not quite.
But close.
"Where?"
"The Scarred Zones. Dead center. Three days travel." Kane handed them supplies. "Lucian's already there. He can't stop Ash alone."
"Then we go."

"Will get worse. Yes." Kane's voice was steel. "But if the portal opens, corruption won't matter. We'll all die."
Silence.
"Pack tonight. Leave at dawn." Jayden met each teammate's eyes. "This is it."
They dispersed.
That night, Jayden stood on Haven's wall. Last time.

"Survival isn't victory."
"It's a start."
They stood in silence.
Tomorrow they'd leave Haven. Safety. Routine.
Tomorrow they'd march toward Ash. Demons. The portal.

Jayden's black lightning crackled.
"Get some sleep. Long march ahead."
Elena left.
Jayden stayed. Watching darkness.
