Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: Variations of Raikiri and Future Plans!

In the ninja world, many techniques can actually be viewed as a type of no-hand-seal ninjutsu. Take the Lightning Style Armor, for example. It wraps the user's entire body in lightning, activating their cells and giving them a boost in speed, strength, and destructive power. But despite how impressive it looks, this kind of ninjutsu is not very common. Most shinobi simply do not have the talent or physical endurance to handle its burden.

Kakashi touched his chin thoughtfully and said, "I don't recommend you try this. Creating new ninjutsu is far harder than using existing ones. Even if you somehow manage to invent a technique and even learn it successfully… its power might still fall short compared to a proper ninjutsu."

As Kakashi spoke, he paused suddenly. His eyes narrowed as he studied Uchiha Souji carefully. In that moment, he realized why Souji had approached him today. With the influence and talent of the Uchiha clan, hiring a Jōnin instructor would have been easy. But Souji came directly to him.

"So that's your plan… You were waiting for me," Kakashi sighed. "You really are a schemer. That ninja named Shi was right about you."

Souji's mouth twitched. Scheming? He didn't think so. He simply understood that he had little chance to get Chidori from Kakashi in normal circumstances. The two weren't close. So Souji originally planned to settle for a weaker version of the technique—maybe just coating a blade with simple Lightning Chakra.

But then he saved Kakashi's life. Thanks to that single event, everything changed. Even if Souji hated the idea of using this "favor" like a bargaining chip, he knew it was practical.

Uchiha Itachi, eating the last takoyaki skewer, tilted his head in confusion. "What are you two talking about?"

Souji replied, touching his chin. "Senior Kakashi has a dangerous technique called Chidori. It's a Lightning Style attack. They say Kakashi once used it to cut a bolt of lightning from the sky, so it's also known as Raikiri."

Kakashi scratched the back of his head, a little embarrassed. He gave Souji a long look. Chidori was part of his personal history in Anbu—a technique he created during dangerous times. It was not meant to be openly shared. But Souji was a genius, and an Uchiha on top of that. Kakashi guessed he would discover its secrets eventually.

"Are you certain?" Kakashi asked. "Since you saved my life, I can teach you everything. But understand this—you could die using this jutsu."

Souji nodded. He had already suffered enough in his past battles. His abilities weren't enough. He lacked long-range attacks, he lacked high-speed killing moves, and he lacked battlefield control. Chidori, with its variations, could fill all those weaknesses.

Kakashi's version had two variations. Sasuke later developed four more. Souji remembered them all:

Thunder Beast Tracking Fang

Thunder Run

Chidori Sharp Spear

Chidori Senbon

Chidori Stream

Chidori Blade

Each had its purpose. Thunder Beast Tracking Fang could chase a target automatically. Chidori Sharp Spear provided devastating long-distance piercing power. Chidori Stream gave control over a wide area. Chidori Blade allowed enchanting a weapon, something Souji desperately needed. Every form addressed one of his weaknesses.

So learning Chidori—or Raikiri—wasn't just important. It was necessary.

Kakashi didn't expect such firm determination from Souji. He felt a headache coming. Chidori was an S-rank technique. Even releasing it incorrectly could tear your own body apart. Kakashi had invented it because he failed to combine Lightning Style with Rasengan. But because the technique made him move faster than his eyes could track, he needed Sharingan just to aim safely.

"You do understand," Kakashi said, "that without Sharingan, you cannot use this jutsu. If you attack at high speed but cannot see your opponent clearly, you will impale yourself long before you ever hit them."

Souji looked up.

His eyes shifted. Black pupils turned crimson. Two tomoe rotated slowly.

Kakashi's words froze in his throat.

Itachi's eyes widened. "A double-tomoe Sharingan… When did you awaken that?"

Souji shrugged. "During the fight with Orochimaru, maybe?"

Kakashi sighed deeply. "You're still young. Wouldn't it be better to wait a few years?"

Souji shook his head. "Everyone says I'm a genius. But I know my limits. That's why I use a sword—it suits my talent better. If I try to learn too many things, I'll master none of them. So I will only learn the Fire Style techniques essential to my clan and pour the rest of my effort into a few chosen jutsu."

He bowed slightly.

"This is my plan for the future. Please teach me, Kakashi-senpai."

Kakashi rubbed his temples. Another stubborn Uchiha. Fugaku was like this. Obito was like this. Now Souji too. Kakashi glanced at young Itachi. He probably will be the same.

"Fine," Kakashi said. "I will teach you—"

"Really?" Souji interrupted with excitement before Kakashi even finished.

"But!" Kakashi raised a finger.

Souji stopped, standing at attention.

"First—the training will be painful. If you choose this path, you must endure it all the way."

Souji nodded immediately.

"Second—you may not practice or use Chidori without my permission."

Souji nodded again.

"Third—you must not neglect your Ninja Academy studies. I don't expect perfect scores, but you must pass every subject."

Seeing Kakashi pause, Souji quickly saluted. "Understood, Kakashi-sensei!"

Kakashi finally relaxed. He took out a scroll and handed it to Souji.

"Chidori is an elite-level ninjutsu. Before you learn the technique itself, you must master Lightning Chakra Nature Transformation and form manipulation. Train with this scroll first. Once you reach the standard, I will begin your special training."

Souji held the scroll tightly.

A new path had opened—dangerous, but full of potential.

And he was ready.
