Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: The Pale Horns

"Even the Great Swordmaster himself would have to applaud this strike!"

The headless corpse of a Barroth lay sprawled on the ground, its muscles twitching slightly from nerve reflexes as blood flowed like a small stream. Gazing at the clean, decisive cut, Logan showed a look of smug satisfaction. The only imperfection was the stinging pain in his tail—a result of the heavy vibration.

After all, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In this world, the carapaces and skeletons of monsters are incredibly hard. In his past life, chopping a chicken bone with a kitchen knife could chip the blade; how could cutting off a monster's tail be as effortless as it seemed in the video games?

A pale blue prompt flashed before his eyes:

Hunt Successful: Barroth. Evolution Points +7.

Logan wasn't in a hurry to eat. Instead, he used his forepaws to meticulously pat down the Barroth's body. The hardened sludge fell away under the impact, looking much like the clay crust of a "Beggar's Chicken." This mud was good stuff—rich in minerals and organic matter, and long-nourished by the Barroth's internal bioenergy. It was a high-quality fertilizer.

Unfortunately, Logan had no need for farming at the moment, so he could only let it go to waste.

Following his usual routine, he first ripped open the Barroth's belly and hollowed out the organs. He ate the nutrient-rich heart and liver while discarding the rest of the offal. Doing this reduced bacterial growth; given the current temperature, it should keep the meat fresh for a few extra days.

As the meat was digested, another pale blue prompt appeared:

Consumed: Barroth. Evolution Points +5.

However, now was not the time to focus on points. Logan dragged the Barroth's carcass and began heading back toward his nest. His previous battle with the Rathian had drained much of his physical strength, and healing his injuries required even more nutrition. This was the perfect time to replenish.

For Logan, a load of over ten tons was nothing. He sprinted all the way, his footsteps kicking up massive clouds of dust and leaving a wide drag mark behind him.

Before long, he was halfway home. Just then, a deep, powerful roar echoed in the distance.

ROOAAAR!!!

The massive sound waves vibrated through the air. Even from a distance, Logan felt his chest cavity resonate with the sound, making his heart thud uncomfortably. This sensation was exactly like hearing a tiger's roar at the zoo back when he was human.

Has a powerful predator come out to hunt?

He stopped in his tracks, his two pointed triangular ears twitching as he listened intently. Seeing no sign of the sound approaching, he ignored it and continued his journey home.

Under a steady supply of food, Logan's injuries healed rapidly. His shattered scales and spikes regrew, and his fur became thick and lush once more.

A whole Barroth provided immense nutrition. Specifically, after consuming the bones, the excessive intake caused Logan to secrete a large amount of sugar crystals again.

He stuffed part of the sugar into a newly made wooden jar and buried it carefully underground as usual. The other portion went into an old jar, to which he added some "special ingredients" before putting it back where it was.

As a creature who valued the virtue of persistence, he wouldn't be satisfied until those little thieves tasted his "special blend."

Yet, for some reason, the hunters never showed up. Time slipped away in the wait, and soon another half-month had passed.

The temperature seemed to stop dropping, hovering around 10°C. During this period, Logan's body continued to grow, finally breaking the 15-meter mark.

The continuous evolution of his base stats made his muscles denser and gave his bone surfaces a metallic luster. His blood became as thick and nutrient-rich as oil, and his organs functioned with powerful intensity.

However, the most significant change occurred within his electrical organ. After investing 20 Evolution Points, the organ began a strange new phase of transformation.

A familiar warm current emerged, this time swirling around Logan's head. His brain—already highly developed from his physical evolution—became even more active. A massive number of neurons began to proliferate, expanding his cranial space and causing his entire head to grow a size larger.

Those new neurons grew upward, first forming tens of millions of tiny nerve fibers, then intertwining into two thick nerve bundles.

Like bamboo shoots breaking through the soil, these two nerve bundles plunged into the hard skull, dissolving two large holes. They pierced through muscle and broke through scales, exposing themselves raw to the outside world.

Normally, nerve bundles without muscle support should have gone limp. But at this moment, an invisible, mysterious force gently lifted these blue-purple tentacles, making them float upright and drift elegantly in the breeze.

Following these nerve bundles were dense capillaries that grew around them like a crimson net. Then, the capillaries began to secrete droplets of transparent fluid. Once these droplets solidified, they formed a unique white crystal—a hard outer shell that protected the nerves and vessels within.

As time passed, the nerves, vessels, and crystals grew in sync. Eventually, they formed a pair of massive Pale Horns.

The shape of these horns was somewhat like the "plate-horns" of a water buffalo but without such a pronounced curve. The thick bases tightly wrapped around his brow bone and temples, extending backward in a graceful arc. On the outer edges of the plate-like horns grew many radiating, spike-like protrusions. From a distance, it looked as if a solar disk, broken in half, had landed on Logan's head.

This pair of "artistic" horns didn't seem like weapons for attacking—and in fact, they weren't. They were actually a unique sensory organ.

With a vast number of neurons connected directly to the brain, and the outer crystals acting as conductors to amplify electrical currents, Logan could now perceive the existence of electromagnetic fields.

This gave him a unique "visual" experience, like a blind person suddenly seeing light after a lifetime of darkness. In his eyes, the world was filled with brilliant, multicolored light—waves and particles constantly gathering, dispersing, and moving.

As he instinctively activated his electrical organ, the white Pale Horns instantly glowed with a deep azure hue. The invisible electromagnetic fields in the air began to converge rapidly, and static electricity piled up, surging continuously into Logan's body.
