Chapter 6 - Insomnia has a cure.

Her eyes ached form the pain of staying up all night.

The difficulty was not in finding possible cures, but how she was going to explain to him that she knew about his problem.

The Miles she knows has always been a difficult person, he never shared his secrets or interact too much with others.

Worse, he had no friend.

A lot of leaves was blown due to the heavy wind of the day before, and it seemed to be worse at the company.

Everywhere was covered in leaves and flowers- in the compound.

The moment she stepped out of the car, she knew she had to get the brooms and sweep the compound herself, that was it.

They arrived before the cleaners and Miles despised dirt.

"Never mind, the cleaners should do it, you don't get pai to work for them."

Those words sounded very incoherent to a disbelieving ear, there was no way Miles Mounthill could have said that, but the stern look on his face, made it clear- he was very serious.

She smiled as she rushed into the building, trying to keep up the pace behind him.

"You have always wanted to have your own space and privacy, right? I will get the builders to divide the office, so we can both have our privacy." He stated.

She felt a weird sensation of guilt, fear, and suspicion.

"Could he have found out about my discovery? Why does he want privacy suddenly? What does this mean?

Questions raced in her mind; he was acting all weird.

Last night, he held her hand like a determined lover and the next morning, he was back to being the cold boss.

It was obvious that something was wrong.

"I don't know why I am telling you this but, we have a huge problem and I have a huge block on how to solve it, it's concerning the deal we have with this company, The Leonard; they want to call off the deal and start it with The Lancers."

He sighed.

So that was it.

"Will it affect the company?"

"It will be a huge loss!"

"The Lancers from the United States?" she inquired.

And with a slight nod of affirmation from him, she knew the work was done.

"Miracles happen, Mr. Mounthill, and I promise that The Leonard are going nowhere" she assured with a smile.

"And how are you going to do that?"

"I need three hours"

7:30am

"Mum, I need your help, please, don't say no"

'What in the world is it?" Adina

"The Leonard are trying to steal away Mounthill's most important deal and I want you to help us" Roxy explained.

"What makes you think, I would want to help Miles?"

"Because I am your daughter and you own the largest shares in The Leonard and you can help me"

"If I help you, you promise to take over my companies and spend our money?"

"Ok! Just do it already, the deal is with The Lancers, please call it off"

"I hope you don't fall in love with your hateful boss, I don't like the amount of care you give to him" Adina complained.

"You forced me into this, don't complain now"

"Hang up, or should I…

The call ended almost immediately.

All she had to do was wait for the good news.

With all the happenings, she wanted to tell him about her new discovery, but she was unsure of how he would receive it.

She stepped tentatively into the office. She saw him pace anxiously through the room.

"Haven't you gotten the news yet?" she inquired.

He glanced at her and nodded.

"So, you have gotten the news?" she asked with a tone filled with excitement.

He sighed as he retired to a more comfortable position – sitting.

"How did you do it?" he asked, his tone filled with curiosity.

On his face was a visible and satisfying grin.

"Well, I have some connections to that company, but… she paused, unsure of how to continue.

"But what?"

She stared at him in a confused state, she didn't know what she was afraid of, but she knew that it was not the fear of losing her life.

"I did not come here to inquire about the deal, because I know that it would have been ironed out…

"Cut to the chase already" Miles said rather impatiently.

"I think we can cure your insomnia" she blurted in a breathless rush.

The expression on his face was unreadable, it was hard to tell the sort of things parading in his mind.

The silence that engulfed the room kept her in an anxious state.

She was not regretting; she was just worried that he would decline her help.

"How much do you want?"

Those words hit her; more than the coldness of ice, she felt it.

He completely shocked her.

"What?" she asked in utter disbelief.

His eyes darkened.

"You heard me well, how much do you want?"

"What is the money for?"

"For the help you offered" he casually said.

She smiled.

"You think I did this for money?"

"Yes, why else would you want to help me so badly"

She looked at him with something more than disbelief- regret.

She had no idea why fate had to put her through all of this, but she deeply regretted that it had to be him.

How could she have forgotten that he never loved anyone but himself.

"You know, I rendered an assistance because I felt the need to, I wanted to help the company that feeds me, and I also want to help you…

"What happens in my life is none of your business, Miss Manchester, stay out of it"

That was the call that automatically relays another hidden message "Leave my office".

But; it was for the both, so she had to return to her seat in silence.

One thing she knew for sure was that his insomnia was not an incurable one.

She had to stay up all night just to find different ways but all he did was shatter her hope.

If only her life was not on the line, she would not be shooting herself in the leg.

She knew she had to explain it to him somehow.

She had to make him understand that insomnia had a cure!

WESTMOUNT, MONTREAL, CANADA

9:00pm

The eerie feeling that she was being followed did not make her feel safe.

She had never had a reason to walk home, since she moved in and now, she felt like she was being followed?

Just to save her life, she was putting her life at risk again.

She only wanted to get sleeping pills for him, and now she… She fastened her pace, maybe if she tried to walk faster, she could outrun whoever it was.

For an unfortunate accident, she was too late and before she could understand what was happening, she felt a sharp pain at the back of her head, one thing she knew she saw clearly was his face- Baby fire!

Then, she knew the danger was unavoidable.
