Ron recalled what Cheers had told him.

If one of the men entering the hall was Earl Eugene, then the other was most likely Marquis Alfred.

Both appearing before the King together…

Were they asking for a royal declaration of war?

"No wonder His Majesty didn't look pleased earlier," Ron murmured inwardly. "Whatever happens, the kingdom bleeds."

Both sides were his vassals.

No matter who won, the King would lose.

"I really wonder what conflict forced things to escalate to this point…"

Ron shook his head, unable to guess.

—

Perhaps because the King was preoccupied with the brewing conflict between Earl Eugene and Marquis Alfred, Ron was spared the matter Viscount Gordon had mentioned—no one came to raise taxes or "negotiate" special fees with him.

After the investiture ceremony, Ron left the palace directly.

Outside, Sig and the others had been waiting anxiously. The moment they spotted him, they rushed over.

"My Lord!"

Their expectant faces made Ron chuckle. Without teasing them, he immediately took out the royal conferment letter, complete with the King's personal seal.

Everyone's faces lit up with joy.

"Lord," Thomas asked cheerfully, "now that everything is settled, shall we return to the Territory?"

"Are the tasks I assigned you all finished?" Ron asked.

"Almost."

"Then finish them first. We'll return after everything's done."

The decision was made.

Since they had come all this way, Ron didn't intend to rush home.

Sig and the others scattered to complete their tasks. Meanwhile, Ron wandered through the capital at a leisurely pace.

He still needed to buy gifts for the people back home.

"I promised Eileen I would bring back local specialties… can't forget Egbert and Abel either. I'd better not show favoritism." Ron chuckled, stepping into a gift shop.

A short while later, a shop attendant followed him out.

"Sir, we'll deliver the items to your residence shortly."

"Thank you," Ron said.

"You're welcome."

Ron waved him off and continued toward the Adventurers' Association, turning the last purchase in his hand thoughtfully.

—

Inside the Adventurers' Association—

"Sir, this is just an ordinary earring. No matter how many times you appraise it, the result will not change."

The staff's tone held no room for doubt.

Ron put on an offended expression.

"Impossible! I obtained this from an ancient ruin. Look at how new it is—there must be divine power sealed within it!"

The adventurers nearby snickered.

But Ron didn't care.

After all, he had bought the earring randomly off a street stall.

What mattered was the attribute he had rolled onto it afterward—

[+5% Charm]

Attributes were normally generated by equipment, but his were… special. Not of this world.

The staff's certainty told Ron one thing:

The attributes he rolled could not be appraised by the Association's usual methods.

He picked up the earring and prepared to leave—

When a blue-robed old man slowly descended the staircase.

"Sir," the old man said gently, "may this old man take a look at the accessory in your hand?"

The staff instantly straightened, his attitude shifting.

"Lord Gerald, do you truly believe this might be a divine artifact?"

Ron blinked. Who is this old man?

A whisper from nearby answered before he could ask:

"That's Gerald! A Third-Tier Archmage! He's an expert in enchantment magic—and a friend of the Association branch head!"

"Why would an Archmage personally appraise the kid's trinket? Don't tell me it really is divine!"

Ron politely handed the earring over.

"Of course."

He wanted to see whether someone of Gerald's level could detect the attribute.

Gerald set the earring on the counter, raised his staff, and began chanting a long incantation.

A faint light pulsed.

Runic patterns spiraled around the earring, forming a glowing magic circle.

So this is appraisal magic, Ron thought.

After a long while, Gerald lowered his staff. The staff member immediately asked:

"Lord Gerald, is it truly as he claimed?"

Gerald frowned slightly, then shook his head.

A collective sigh of disappointment swept through the room. Several adventurers shot Ron disdainful looks.

But Gerald wasn't finished.

"…It does not contain divine power," he said slowly, "but it has been enchanted. No—no, it's not magic. Nor divine power. It's… something else. Something outside my knowledge."

The room fell silent.

Even Ron raised a brow.

Gerald had seen through it—at least partially.

The Archmage continued calmly, "Most appraisals are done with pre-set magic arrays. Their accuracy is greatly reduced. It's normal for the staff not to detect this."

Then he turned to Ron.

"Sir, would you be willing to sell this item to this old man? I am willing to pay a high price to conduct research on it."

Ron almost laughed.

Sell it? Absolutely not.

"I obtained this through life and death. I won't sell it."

He retrieved the earring.

Gerald immediately called out—

"5,000 gold coins!"

Ron paused for half a second… then kept walking.

"10,000 gold coins!"

Ron didn't even turn around.

The adventurers buzzed.

"Ten thousand gold coins?!"

"That Archmage must be crazy—"

But Gerald was far from done.

Gritting his teeth, he roared:

"30,000 gold coins! This is everything this old man has left! If it's not enough, name your price—I'll repay the debt in time!"

Ron vanished from the doorway—

shff!

—and reappeared right in front of Gerald, placing the earring firmly into his hands.

With great emotion, Ron declared:

"It's not for the money, but your dedication moved me, old sir! Therefore, I am willing to sell this earring to you!"

Gerald: "…"

Then why emphasize the word 'sell' so dramatically?!

But the deal was made.

Ron left with 30,000 gold coins.

Gerald held the earring like a priceless treasure.

"This old man has been spending heavily on research recently," Gerald said happily. "I will repay the rest when I have funds."

"No rush, old sir. I live in Arnold Territory. You are welcome to visit anytime," Ron said.

Gerald quickly grabbed his sleeve.

"One more thing! Where exactly did you find this in the ancient ruins?"

Every adventurer in the room straightened, ears perked.

Ron put on the most solemn, mysterious expression he could muster.

"That," he said gravely, "is a secret I cannot reveal."

And with that, he walked out, leaving a room full of frustrated treasure hunters behind him.
