Chapter 1 - DEATH EQUAL EVOLUTION

Chapter 1 – The Day I Became Rex Johan

A stormy night.

Thunder cracked across the sky as a teenage boy cornered another kid in a dark alley.

The bully's name was Rex Johan—the spoiled, arrogant youngest son of one of the four strongest noble families of the Empire. Everyone in the academy feared him… and hated him.

He laughed cruelly and raised his hand to hit the boy again—

CRACK!

A bolt of lightning struck him.

The world went white.

---

When the scene faded, the sound of worried voices surrounded him.

"Doctor, will young master be alright?" Rex's mother asked anxiously.

"He will wake up," the doctor replied. "But he needs rest. Please allow him to sleep."

His mother and the servants quietly left the room.

Moments later, his eyes slowly opened.

"…Where am I?" he whispered. "I was… in my office. How did I end up here?"

Memories flooded his head—memories that weren't his.

He realized the truth.

This wasn't his body.

His soul had transmigrated.

The boy whose body he now occupied was named Rex Johan, a rich brat who bullied servants, abused his status, and caused endless trouble for the Johan family. And the man inside this body?

A normal office employee from Earth.

A part-time webnovel writer.

Someone who died… and woke up inside the very story he himself had written.

---

A soft knock came at the door.

A maid stepped inside, trembling. "Y-Young Master… I-I'm sorry! I didn't know you would wake up so early! I should have come to help you, please forgive me!"

She dropped to her knees in panic.

More memories hit him—memories of how Rex used to torment this maid for fun.

He sighed softly.

"It's fine," he said. "You may leave."

The maid froze, shocked… and then hurriedly ran out.

Right after she left, a thin boy with dark skin entered the room holding a notebook.

"Good morning, Young Master," he greeted politely before sitting down to record something.

Another memory surfaced.

Noble children from powerful families had their daily routine recorded until age fourteen—training, mistakes, achievements, everything. Their lives were monitored closely.

He walked to the bathroom, splashing water on his face.

"So I've transmigrated into my own novel…

Into Rex Johan, the youngest son of the Johan family."

His heart pounded. In the story he wrote, Rex was a villainous side character, and at age 17, he would be executed publicly.

"If I'm going to survive," he muttered, "I need to fix Rex's reputation… and fast."

But another problem surfaced.

The Johan family specialized in Swordsmanship and Blood Magic, but Rex had zero talent in either.

No talent.

No strength.

No future.

As he stared at himself in the mirror—

A translucent screen suddenly appeared before him.

[ SYSTEM LOADING… ]

[ TALENT: 0 ]

[ POWER LEVEL: 0 ]

[ ABILITIES: NONE ]

His expression darkened.

"Zero…? Everything is zero? How am I supposed to survive like this?"

But then he noticed something.

At the bottom of the screen, a unique ability flickered:

[ Divine Eye ]

A power granted only to the writer of the story.

It allowed him to view anyone's status…

and whenever he killed by someone, he would gain one ability from them and rewind one day in the past.

A deadly, risky ability.

---

The maid from before suddenly returned.

He activated Divine Eye.

Her status appeared.

→ Hidden Skill: Assassin Arts

He froze.

A normal maid… with assassin powers?

He dismissed the window quietly. Too dangerous to ask.

He then checked his own status again, noticing a strange skill:

[ Divine Writer ] – A mysterious ability that rewrote reality by turning his words into "story fragments."

He frowned. "What kind of useless power is this…?"

Ignoring it, he left his room and walked toward his father's chamber.

His father—Archduke Johan, the most ruthless man in the Empire—was feared by nobles and commoners alike. In the original story, Rex died by this man's hand.

"If I die by his hand now…

I can copy one of his abilities."

Without hesitation, he rushed toward his father—straight into danger.

The Archduke looked at him with cold eyes.

And in a single motion—

SLASH!

His father cut his throat open.

He screamed—

and the world turned dark.

---

The moment he opened his eyes again, he was back in his bedroom.

The previous day.

The system screen appeared once more:

[ YOU HAVE DIED. CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: ]

1. Divine-Level Swordsmanship

2. Supreme Blood Magic

He thought quickly.

If he suddenly gained sword talent, everyone would be suspicious.

He could be killed instantly.

But Blood Magic?

It already flowed in the Johan family's bloodline—but Rex simply didn't know how to use it.

"I'll choose Blood Magic."

The moment he confirmed, his entire body trembled violently.

Pain shot through his veins like molten fire. He collapsed to the floor, unable to breathe.

If the system hadn't forced healing into his body, he would have died instantly.

But before he could stand—

A heavy punch struck his stomach.

And the chapter ends.
