The study session continued peacefully on both sides.
-"You have to make this formula using the subtraction result" - Noemí was explaining to Emily.
Emily felt dizzy from so much information.
-"Wait friend, this is too much for my little head."
Noemí's stomach rumbled, Sofía and Emily looked at her curiously, which only made Noemí blush with embarrassment.
-"Are you hungry?." - Sofía asked with a smile.
-"A little bit" - Noemí replied and looked away.
-"We can buy snacks right here at the library." - Emily said while her head was resting on the table.
Sofía got up from her chair quickly.
-"Great idea, I'll go buy them don't worry" - she just wanted to stop studying so that's why she volunteered.
Noemí and Emily were left alone.
-"Tell me Noemí, how are you so smart?."
-"I have a lot of free time, so I study almost all day."
-"Huh?, And why don't you go out with your friends in your free time?."
Noemí looked down.
-"Because you two are my only friends."
Emily lifted her head and smiled.
-"You know what? I'm just like you - everyone thinks the student council president is surrounded by friends but that's not actually the case."
Noemí was surprised by this discovery about the president.
-"Really? I also thought you had lots of friends because you're popular."
Emily laughed softly.
-"I'm popular because of my position at school but I only have two friends, and that's you two."
-"I thought we were from different worlds."
-"Well no, we're more alike than you think."
Emily stared ahead, she seemed to be thinking, then got up quickly.
-"I have to go to the bathroom, friend. Could you watch our backpacks? I won't be long."
-"Of course, be careful."
-"Thanks" - Emily ran off toward the bathroom.
(She really did need to go to the bathroom).
Noemí was left alone at the table and took the opportunity to read a book in peace.
At the snack shop there was a huge line. Sofía rolled her eyes
-"This is going to take forever."
At the boys' table surprisingly everything was quiet.
Brandon was asleep, Josias was struggling with an equation that was pure hell for him, Jhonatan was texting his girlfriend and Dan was lying face down on the floor under the table.
Apparently they'd completely forgotten about studying together.
Dan got up quickly and hit his head on the table
-"Ouch."
He came out from under the table.
-"I'm going to the bathroom, won't be long."
Jhonatan barely heard him, Josias was so focused he didn't even remember they were there and Brandon mumbled something that couldn't be understood - probably a "Okay".
Dan walked toward the bathroom until his gaze shifted to a table - it was the table where Noemí was sitting.
He was surprised and hid behind a bookshelf.
-"Is she here too? She's alone - this is my chance to talk to her."
(He forgot he needed to go to the bathroom)
Two kids walking by saw him and one pointed.
-"Look, a crazy guy."
Dan looked at them with an offended expression.
-"Shut up brat."
Dan sighed and decided to approach - he had to act now to win that bet.
He walked past her table pretending to look for a book.
-"Huh? Noemí, is that you?" - he pretended he'd barely noticed her even though his acting wasn't very convincing.
Noemí jumped slightly; when she saw him she thought about running away again but remembered her conversation with Josias.
-"Yes, it's me. Did you also come to study, Dan?" - she replied with a friendly smile.
Dan's eyes widened - he was completely confused to see she wasn't running away, he just thought: "what got into this girl?".
-"Yes, I came with my friends to study."
-"Oh, that's good - I came with my friends too."
-"Oh, did they leave you alone?."
-"Yes, Sofía went to buy snacks and Emily went to the bathroom."
Dan thought: "Emily? I thought she was afraid to make friends but clearly that's not the case."
-"Oh, I see..." - Dan shifted from foot to foot, as if he wanted to say something but was embarrassed.
-"Is something wrong?." - Noemí asked.
-"I was wondering if... we could talk for a little bit." - he said while trying to avoid looking at Noemí.
Noemí smiled.
-"Of course, have a seat."
Dan was already walking away but stopped when he heard her, turned to look at her again.
-"Really?."
-"Yes, let's talk if you want to."
Wasting no time Dan sat down quickly.
-"Thank you."
In the snack line Sofía was getting bored.
-"Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, H-U-R-R-Y U-P." - she kept saying repeatedly, tired of waiting.
Emily washed her hands and when she tried to open the bathroom door it got stuck - she stood there for a moment processing it. She struggled with the door trying to open it.
-"Why me...!" - she said as she rolled her eyes.
At the boys' table Josias put down his work and looked under the table.
-"Hey guys, where's Dan?."
Jhonatan was still talking to his girlfriend and Brandon, still asleep, mumbled.
-"In the bathroom."
Josias sighed trying to relax after fighting with math.
-"I just want to leave..."
