Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

RAFAEL

As I watched her walk down the isle in that alluring dress, I could have cried thinking of how someone as perfect as her could ever love me. But there she was, in a wedding dress her belly swollen with my child I could have sworn it was a dream.

We said our vows and exchanged rings. She smiled a beautiful smile. Suddenly, I head a horrified scream. I looked down and saw her face pearl and terrified. I was too afraid to look down, but when I did, I sprung into action and carried her to our car. In a flash we where in a hospital and they where wheeling her away. This is when I gave in.

After what felt like hours, I had a cry and for the first time I felt hope, then I had another cry from a different - weaker voice. My heart slipped a beat. A nurse came out, finally.

"Mr Romanova, the twins where delivered saf...."

"TWINS!" I exclaimed before she could finish

"Yes sir." she replied

"Can I see the and my wife how is she."

She gave an apologetic smile then "The doctors are doing all they can" and right after that. They wheeled her out of the room. I couldn't outer a single word seeing her condition.

" I love you. You are going to be a great father. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to help you." she said in a silent voice. I didn't reply knowing that they were taking her to a place she may never return from.

"Would you like to see the babies sir?" asked the nurse softly as if she thought her voice may break me.

As soon as I entered the room, my heart stopped as I started at the little beings in front of me. They where tiny and frail.

"What are their names sir?" I responded almost immediately.

" Mateo and Maria." I said

"Beautiful names sir." she said with a gentle smile.

"Are you Mr Romanova ?" another nurse said from behind me.

"yes"

"ITS your wife sir, she is unstable and...."

"Where is she?"

She took me to the room that she was in. She smiled and beckoned me closer.

"I don't think I.. live long enough to see it but I'm sure you would make a wonder.. rful father to our kids.... I lov..... e you so much. Treat the... em the same... way you would have.... if I had lived" she went limp in my arms. All I could was hold her.

I was asked to leave the room. But I couldn't leave her, they had to force my out and I'm a very big man. Once I was pushed out, I walked aimlessly to the room where my children where. And for the first time I saw a problem money couldn't help me out of.
