Chapter 1 - December 23rd

Mary and Henry had been gathering a couple animals and some wood since the 20th, animals are scarce in this time of winter. Tomorrow was Christmas Eve, and Elizabeth finally finished her embroidery of a blackbird perched atop an oak branch that has poppies blooming on it. Mary hung it on the tree and went outside to help Henry bring in the yule log, leaving Elizabeth alone to continue making decor. Elizabeth hung hand-made paper ornaments on the tree with delicate precision. Paper ornaments, strings threaded through popcorn, and nuts hung on the tree when Henry went out again to check on the sacrificial horse. "Elizabeth, you've done well, to bed now." Mary tells her. Elizabeth replies "Yes ma'am." and goes to her bedroom.
