The moment the silver-lit door slid open, the atmosphere shifted.
Not colder.
Not hotter.
But… aware.
The team exchanged glances as pale azure mist drifted past their ankles. Even the walls here felt different—smooth, seamless stone that pulsed softly, like a heartbeat too slow to be human.
Riley stepped forward first.
Arcial followed, shoulders low, hackles raised—not in aggression, but in reverence.
"Anyone else feel like we're walking into somewhere we shouldn't?" Hayley whispered.
Bramble whined quietly.
Dot did not pat Aria this time. Instead, she huddled close, little legs drawn in tight.
"Yeah," Aria whispered back. "This feels like the final chapter of a book where the author suddenly wants to get emotional."
Ether drifted upward, glowing as if sensing something sacred.
The corridor opened—
And every person inhaled.
The Heart Chamber
The room was vast.
Round.
Silent.
Lit entirely by a single suspended crystal in the centre.
The Heart of Azure Hollow.
Not a gem.
Not a boss.
A living nexus of stormlight and moonlight wound together—pulsing softly like breath. Beneath it, a stone cradle split into ten narrow channels, each filled with swirling motes of silver, blue, and faint gold.
Rezion whispered, "This… this isn't a battlefield."
"No," Riley said.
"It's a birthplace."
The resonance orb's earlier promise echoed in his memory:
One Primordial Egg — Spirit Form: Unassigned. Element: Adaptive. Growth Path: Chosen by Bond.
Aria stepped closer, voice tiny.
"So… this is where eggs come from? Like… spirit storks? But storm-flavoured?"
Dot smacked her forehead.
But lightly. Even she was being respectful.
The Heart pulsed once—gently.
Then the system chimed:
> Azure Hollow — Final Reward Phase
Proving Complete.
Spirit Paths Aligned.
Initiating Manifestation.
The cradle split into ten distinct basins.
Each one filled with swirling motes that coalesced… thickened… gained shape…
And then—
Settled.
Ten Eggs. Ten Paths. Ten Futures.
With a soft chime, ten eggs formed before them.
Not identical.
Not random.
Each one unique in colour, aura, and faint outline—still unassigned, but already whispering possibilities.
Hayes stepped closer to the egg that pulsed with earthy strength and faint echoes of metal.
Hayley's egg flickered with shifting lights, like an aurora trapped inside.
Jonathan's egg had a stony shell with faint golden cracks glowing from within—Stoneback squeaked and hugged his leg.
Kalyani gasped as her egg shimmered with fiery-orange veins that curled like dancing embers.
Rezion's egg floated slightly, trailing frost motes that chimed like small bells.
Sofia's egg glowed softly, warm silver with tiny threads forming and unforming across its surface—Ether pressed her forehead to it, sighing in delight.
Aria's egg…
Was a chaos gremlin.
It sparked.
And smoked.
And rotated on its axis like it was trying to escape the cradle.
"OF COURSE," Aria groaned. "MY EGG IS TRYING TO SPEEDRUN LIFE—"
Dot wrapped her legs around Aria's hair in resignation.
Arcial approached the one meant for Riley.
This egg was not loud.
Not bright.
Not flashy.
It was still.
Quiet.
A dark storm-blue shell with faint lines that shifted like constellations—patterns that rearranged themselves every few seconds, like the sky thinking.
Arcial nudged Riley's hand gently toward it.
"You think so too?" Riley murmured.
The lynx rumbled in deep agreement.
The Heart Speaks
The chamber dimmed.
The Heart pulsed again—brighter this time.
A voice filled the chamber.
Not machine-like.
Not NPC-coded.
Ancient.
"WALKERS OF DAWNVIEW… YOU HAVE SHAPED THE HOLLOW THROUGH CHOICE, COURAGE, AND BALANCE."
Sofia froze. "That's… not normal."
Kipp fainted.
Mira caught him by the collar.
The voice continued:
"THESE EGGS ARE NOT GIVEN. THEY ARE ECHOES OF WHAT YOU COULD BECOME… OR WHAT YOU COULD SAVE.
BIND THEM WITH INTENTION.
GROW THEM WITH PURPOSE.
THEY WILL REFLECT YOU… AS YOU REFLECT THEM."
The Heart dimmed again.
The system window followed:
> Primordial Eggs Acquired (10)
Spirit Type: Unassigned
Potential: Ascendant
Evolution: Path-Determined
Growth: Bond-Dependent
Note: The spirit inside adapts its nature based on early care, environment, and combat synergy.
Rezion whispered, "This… is insane."
Hayley wiped a tear from her cheek. "They… trust us with these?"
Jonathan knelt beside his egg. Stoneback placed a paw on top of it gently.
Kalyani hugged her egg like she might explode.
Aria sobbed. "My stupid egg is so cute even though it's trying to kill me—"
The egg tried to roll away.
Aria scrambled after it.
Ether sighed on Sofia's shoulder.
But Then—
The Heart flickered.
Dimmed.
Flickered harder.
Hayes tensed. "Is it supposed to… do that?"
Riley's eyes narrowed.
"No."
The chamber trembled.
A final window appeared:
> Warning: Azure Hollow is collapsing.
Exit Portal will appear in 0:15.
Retrieve eggs and evacuate.
"OKAY," Aria screamed, grabbing her egg. "NO SENTIMENTALITY. WE'RE LEAVING!"
Hayley grabbed Kipp.
Mira grabbed her bag of tools AND Kipp's because she knew he would drop something.
Jonathan threw Stoneback onto his shoulder and sprinted.
Rezion clutched his egg like a newborn and fled.
Kalyani stuffed her egg into her satchel which immediately caught fire; she screamed and carried it instead.
Dot dragged Aria by the hair to keep her moving.
Riley turned to leave—
—and Arcial stopped him.
The lynx stared once more at the Heart.
Not fearfully.
Respectfully.
Riley bowed his head for a heartbeat.
"You gave us a chance," he whispered. "We'll make it count."
Then he ran.
The chamber around them fractured.
Mist roared inwards.
Pillars collapsed.
The Heart shattered into a thousand sparks, drifting upward like fireflies departing a dying world.
But just before it faded completely…
A final whisper brushed Riley's ear.
"EMBERTON AWAITS, WALKER."
And then—
He burst through the exit portal.
The group stumbled into the plaza in a crash of limbs, eggs, and exhausted spirits.
NPCs stared.
Players stared.
Somebody dropped a frying pan.
Aria yelled:
"WE HAVE BABIES!"
The entire plaza went silent.
Dot facepalmed.
Riley straightened, egg tucked safely under his arm.
The notifications flooded in:
> Dungeon Cleared — Azure Hollow
First Clear Bonus Granted.
Unique Reward for completing Hidden path : Primordial Eggs times 10
Permanent Route Unlocked: Dawnview → Emberton.
Stormfront Reputation (Major) gained.
Title Earned: Hollowborn Guardians (Party).
Hayes whistled low.
Hayley burst into relieved laughter.
Jonathan hugged his egg AND Stoneback.
Kalyani spun in circles until dizzy.
Rezion sat on the ground and cried exactly one tear before Frostwing patted his nose.
Aria lifted her egg overhead like a champion wrestler.
Sofia pressed her forehead gently to her egg, Ether glowing warmly beside her.
And Riley?
He looked southeast.
Toward Emberton.
Toward the scouts, sponsors, and chances waiting for him.
Toward the future he needed to build.
"For Mum," he whispered.
Arcial nudged his leg.
The egg in his arms pulsed once.
As if agreeing.
