Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: The God of Thunder Returns

Corin instinctively caught the thing that flew over, not even having time to look at it closely.

He saw Thor leap up and shoot into the sky.

The sonic boom of breaking the sound barrier slammed into everyone's eardrums.

Only then did Erik realize that the man who kept spouting nonsense about being Thor, son of Odin, had not been lying after all.

Would a drunk survive being struck by lightning that thick?

"He is actually the God of Thunder?"

Staring in shock, Erik felt that the science he had worshiped for so many years now seemed ridiculously laughable.

Even though Thor's earlier words all matched what was written in fairy tale books, those were fairy tales.

What scientist would actually believe fairy tales?

And who would ever think that the guy Jane casually knocked over was the God of Thunder?

Looking at the scene before him that went against all common scientific sense, Erik did not even dare to blink. Everything happening here would become something he would never forget for the rest of his life.

After going through extreme grief and extreme joy, Jane now felt like she was in a dream.

Through her time with Thor, a voice in her heart kept telling her that he had not lied to her.

But Jane was, after all, an astrophysicist. A scientist's strict rationality kept reminding her not to believe Thor's words.

Yet Thor's noble bearing, handsome looks, warm care, and tough guy style were like catnip, firmly drawing in this little cat.

On that cold night, Thor had patiently explained the Nine Realms to her, explaining Asgard and the Rainbow Bridge.

That gentle side of him reminded her of her father. Thor had even tucked her in and encouraged her not to give up hope.

Everything about it made Jane completely drunk on him.

She admitted that she had probably fallen in love with this man who lacked basic human common sense, and he might not even know it.

Seeing Thor return from death, Jane was happier than anyone.

She raised her arms and cheered for Thor.

But at the same time, there was a trace of sadness.

"If he really is the God of Thunder... then sooner or later he has to go back to the heavens."

A girl's thoughts shifted endlessly in that moment, and the look in her eyes as she gazed at Thor became very complicated.

As for Darcy, facing the awe inspiring Thor right now, she only wanted to say one thing. So many lucky breaks were never something a mere mortal could swallow down.

Corin felt the hard weight in his hand and looked up at Thor's figure.

No wonder they called it the return of the God of Thunder.

Thor was at the peak of his glory right now. Probably no one would be his match, not even Corin himself.

After all, Corin did not have a heaven defying weapon like the meow meow hammer, nor did he have that crackling divine power.

A bit tired, Corin plopped down on the ground. He knew his mission was already done. The rest was up to Thor.

He decisively switched modes. Sit back and watch the show.

At this moment, the Destroyer climbed back up. This was the first time since coming to Earth that it had been knocked down.

It lifted its metal head and looked at Thor high in the sky, brushing aside the cars swept up by the storm with one hand.

It seemed to be locking onto its enemy.

Thor was now floating in midair, swinging Mjolnir to form a fierce whirlwind, with countless bolts of lightning swirling around him.

As Thor suddenly exerted his power, the strength of the storm multiplied exponentially, slowly lifting the heavy Destroyer.

The Destroyer flying toward Thor fired an energy blast, but Thor casually blocked it with the meow meow hammer.

Thor's eyes grew resolute as he swung the hammer toward the Destroyer.

Another energy wave came blasting over.

Dragged by the massive inertia of Mjolnir, Thor faced the energy cannon head on, accelerating as he charged at the Destroyer.

The high temperature of the energy wave did not harm Thor at all.

The uru metal hammer was Thor's greatest shield.

Mjolnir, which could withstand the energy impact of a supernova, held off the energy beam completely, with scorching hot residual energy swirling around Thor's body.

Thor charged forward without hesitation, faster and faster.

BOOM!

A flash of white light. A deafening explosion.

Above the small town, the collision between Thor and the Destroyer triggered an enormous energy surge that instantly blew away all the clouds.

The shockwave rippled outward, covering a range far larger than the town itself.

The Destroyer's head took a heavy hit. Reduced to a steel shell, it crashed down, smashing into the ground and forming a massive crater.

Under the impact of Mjolnir powered by divine force, even Odin's magic could not save this Asgardian war machine.

Sand and dirt were blasted up to a hundred meters into the air, like a desert storm.

In the zero visibility zone, a figure slowly walked out.

Clad in full armor with a blood red cape, carrying Mjolnir, Thor the God of Thunder appeared before everyone.

"Is this how you usually dress?", Looking at the mighty Thor, Jane did not know what to say and asked a pretty pointless question.

"More or less."

Thor, radiating the pressure of a god, answered coolly.

"So cool."

Jane tried hard to control her expression, but the stars glittering in her eyes betrayed her.

With his divine power restored, Thor knew he still had more important things to do.

He had to find out what had happened in Asgard.

"We have to go to the entrance to the heavenly realm. I need to talk to my brother."

Thor issued the command in a tone that brooked no argument. This was his true self.

The warriors of Asgard now had their backbone again, and their fighting spirit was reignited.

"Wait a second."

At this moment, Agent Coulson called out to Thor.

"Donald, it looks like you never told me the truth."

Awakened to his kingly will, Thor cut Coulson off, his gaze steady.

He knew that even though this man had arrested him before, he was only carrying out his duty. Thor would not hold a grudge over something so small.

"We all shoulder the same mission, which is to protect this world."

"From today on, you can consider me an ally."

"However... you have to give back what you took from Jane."

With her backing now in place, Jane immediately added, "Stolen."

"Borrowed!"

Coulson shot back without missing a beat.

Plans never outrun reality. How could some research equipment compare to a godlike ally?

"Of course you can take the equipment back. After all, you still need to continue your research."

Coulson wanted to say more to Thor, maybe try to get friendly, but Thor ignored him.

The God of Thunder strode over to Corin. Looking at Corin's bare upper body, he crouched down and asked, "Brave warrior, you have earned my respect. What is your name?"

Seeing Thor come over to speak to him on his own, Corin knew his plan had achieved a phase of success. He smiled faintly.

"My codename is Destiny. I am a bounty hunter." [T/N: His codename has been changed from "Cockroach" to "Destiny".]

Thor repeated "Destiny" twice under his breath, as if to remember the name.

He lifted his chin to signal Corin to look at what he was holding and grinned.

"This is a medal I once earned. A wager is a wager. It is yours."

Only then did Corin raise his hand and take a good look at what Thor had thrown him.

"So it is a medal."

The palm sized medal was made of metal, though the material was hard to tell.

A nine pointed star shield shaped base, with broken spears and rune chains woven along the edges. In the center was a mighty long spear, its tip pointing downward, piercing through the phantom of chaotic waves.

The background showed molten lava and icy frost intertwined. Around the spear were twelve Valkyries riding steeds and holding swords, their figures appearing and vanishing as the angle of the medal changed. It used iridescent enamel, so when light hit it, it shimmered like the flowing Rainbow Bridge.

It was not big, but at a glance it was clearly valuable.

Corin shook the medal in his hand at Thor.

"Thanks."

"No need to thank me. I lost to you, after all."

Thor smiled freely, showing a trace of royal nobility and his promise keeping nature.

Looking at the medal in his hand, Corin muttered, "Appraise."

[Asgardian War Medal -> Appraised value: 8 billion US dollars]

Corin's pupils shrank.

"Holy shit!"

'A stupid little badge is worth that much?'

Seeing that this tiny thing in his hand was valued at 8 billion dollars, Corin became even more determined to go to Asgard.
