Chapter 58 - Chapter 58 Fate Bending

The morning mist clung to the forest floor like a damp shroud, thick and smelling of iron.

As Team Minato moved through the dense foliage of the Land of Grass, the atmosphere shifted.

The lighthearted bickering between Obito and Kakashi had died down, replaced by the heavy, suffocating silence of a high-stakes mission.

Lucifer moved with them, his gait fluid and predatory. The "Forced Pathway Expansion" from the night before had left his body feeling raw, but his senses were sharper than ever.

With his Fundamental Insight, he could see the invisible threads of chakra woven into the environment.

He could feel the pulse of the forest—and more importantly, he could feel the distortions in that pulse where enemies lay in wait.

"We're close,"

Minato whispered, his hand going to the hilt of a marked kunai.

"The Kannabi Bridge is just beyond this ridge. Our objective is to destroy it and cut off the Iwa supply line. But remember, the enemy knows this bridge is their lifeline. They'll have their best guardians here."

Minato paused, turning his gaze toward Lucifer.

"Lucifer-san, you've been quiet. Your chakra signature feels... different this morning. More stable, but deeper. Whatever you did with Rin's advice, it worked."

Lucifer gave a casual, lopsided grin, though sweat still beaded on his brow from the lingering internal heat.

"Just a bit of plumbing, Minato-san. Widened the pipes so I don't spring a leak when things get messy."

Minato nodded, though a flicker of concern crossed his eyes.

"Just don't overdo it. We need you at 100%."

As they reached the canyon overlooking the bridge, Minato received an urgent signal—a diversionary force of Leaf shinobi was being overwhelmed nearby. As the Jonin leader, he had to split off.

"Kakashi, you're in command,"

Minato said firmly.

"Proceed to the bridge. Protect Rin at all costs—she's our primary support and medic. Obito, watch the flanks. Lucifer-san... I'm trusting your instincts. Keep them alive."

With a flash of yellow, Minato was gone.

The air grew colder. Lucifer stepped closer to Rin, his hand resting on the hilt of the Void-Seeker.

He wasn't interested in the bridge; he was interested in the timeline. He knew that in the original flow of history, this was where the tragedy began.

An ambush, a kidnapping, and a cave-in that would create a monster out of a boy.

"Stay within three paces of me, Rin,"

Lucifer said, his tone no longer casual. It was the voice of a commander.

Rin looked at him, surprised by the sudden gravity in his voice.

"Lucifer-san? What is it?"

"Just a feeling,"

He replied.

"The ground feels too solid, and the shadows are too long. Kakashi! Obito! Eyes up. We aren't alone."

Kakashi scoffed, though his hand gripped his sabre.

"I don't need a Ronin telling me how to—"

He never finished the sentence.

The earth beneath them groaned.

Two Iwa shinobi, Kakkō and Taiseki, lunged from the rock face. Taiseki utilized a high-level camouflage jutsu, vanishing into the air, while Kakkō triggered a massive rock-fall trap.

"Rock Style: Mountain Smash!"

Huge boulders, enchanted with earth chakra to increase their density, plummeted toward the group.

"Obito! Move!"

Kakashi yelled, lunging toward the Uchiha who had frozen in shock.

But Lucifer was already moving. He didn't jump away. He stepped forward, directly in front of Rin.

"Shield Up!"

He slammed his palm into the air. A shimmering, hexagonal barrier of translucent energy erupted, forming a dome over him and Rin.

The boulders slammed into the shield with the force of falling mountains.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

The impact was deafening. The ground beneath Lucifer's feet cracked and sank, but the shield didn't even flicker.

To the Iwa ninjas, it looked like a miracle. To Lucifer, it was a test of his Adaptive Upgrade perk.

"What... what kind of jutsu is this?"

Rin whispered, staring at the boulders that were shattered against the invisible wall inches from her face.

"It's not a jutsu,"

Lucifer grunted, his feet burying into the soil.

"It's… bloodline limit"

Taiseki, still camouflaged, sensed the anomaly and circled around the shield, intending to strike from the rear.

He moved with the silence of a ghost, his blade coated in poison.

Lucifer didn't turn his head.

His Fundamental Insight and Basic Empath picked up the murderous intent like a beacon in the dark.

"You're loud,"

Lucifer muttered.

He combined his newly expanded Chakra with his Ki, triggering the "Void-Step" skill.

In a literal blink, Lucifer vanished from his spot next to Rin.

There was no smoke, no sound of rushing air.

He simply ceased to be in one place and appeared in another. He manifested directly behind the invisible Taiseki.

"How—?!"

Taiseki's voice cracked as his camouflage failed.

Lucifer didn't use his sword. He used a Void-Infused Strike with his open palm.

He slammed it into Taiseki's back, targeting the Tenketsu pathways Rin had described.

Instead of healing, Lucifer sent a jagged, dissonant vibration of Void energy into the man's core.

The Iwa ninja's chakra network didn't just stop; it imploded. Taiseki was thrown forward, his body hitting the canyon wall with a sickening crunch, his internal pathways shattered beyond repair.

"Lucifer! The other one!"

Obito screamed.

Kakkō had used the distraction to grab Kakashi by the throat, his blade leveled at the boy's eye.

"Surrender the medic, or the genius dies!"

Lucifer stood calmly in the center of the clearing, the Void-Seeker finally leaving its scabbard.

The blade didn't reflect the morning sun; it seemed to drink the light, a sliver of nothingness in the palm of a master.

"You have two choices, Stone-nin,"

Lucifer said, his voice casual again, almost bored.

"You can drop the kid and run, in which case I might let you live to see the sunset. Or you can try to finish what you started."

Kakkō snarled.

"You're just a Ronin! You have no honor, no village—"

"I have a shield that can stop a mountain and a blade that can cut a god,"

Lucifer interrupted, stepping forward.

Each step left a charred footprint where his Void-energy leaked.

"Honor is for the dead. I'm just here for the results."

Rin watched Lucifer, her heart racing. She saw the way he moved—not like a ninja, but like a force of nature.

She looked over at Obito, who was shaking, his hand hovering over his eyes as if he were on the verge of a breakthrough.

She remembered Lucifer's words from the night before: He's the only one who would burn the world down just to keep you smiling.

"Obito!"

Rin shouted, her voice cutting through the tension.

"Don't look at me! Look at the enemy! Kakashi needs you!"

Obito froze. For the first time, he didn't feel jealous of Kakashi's skill.

He felt the protective rage of a warrior. His pupils dilated, and the world slowed down.

Within the depths of his black irises, a single red tomoe began to spin.

The Sharingan.

Lucifer saw it with his Fundamental Insight. The awakening of the Uchiha bloodline. The tragic catalyst was happening, but the context was different.

"Good,"

Lucifer whispered.

"Now the odds are even."

Kakkō panicked, sensing the shift in the air. He lunged at Kakashi, but Lucifer didn't need to intervene this time.

Obito moved with a newfound grace, his kunai parrying the strike that would have taken Kakashi's eye.

"I won't let you hurt my friends!"

Obito roared.

Lucifer stepped back, maintaining his Force Field around Rin. He watched as the two boys, usually at each other's throats, began to fight in a desperate, unrefined harmony.

He saw Kakashi's cold logic beginning to mesh with Obito's raw emotion.

This is it, Lucifer thought. The moment the 'monster' was supposed to be born. But if they both survive... if Rin stays behind this shield... then the world doesn't end.

But he knew the world wouldn't make it that easy. He felt a massive surge of chakra approaching from the distance.

Not one, not two, but a battalion of Iwa reinforcements.

"Rin, stay behind me,"

Lucifer commanded, his eyes narrowing as he looked toward the horizon.

"The small fry are done. The real war is arriving."

He looked at his status. His HP was nearly back to full, and his MP was steady.

He had changed the beginning of the tragedy, but the middle was going to be a bloodbath.

"Hey, Obito! Kakashi!"

Lucifer called out, a dark, eager smile crossing his face.

"If you guys survive the next ten minutes, I'll buy you all the Yakiniku you can eat back in Konoha. But you have to stay alive to collect."

"Is that a promise, Ronin?!"

Obito yelled, dodging a rock spear.

"I never break a contract,"

Lucifer replied, the Void-Seeker humming with an ancient, hungry power.
