Chapter 39 - Send me the address please

"Are we being robbed?"

The woman said with an amused scoff.

Her voice was just as sonorous, if not more so than her daughter, Nancy's.

Yea sure, laugh, laugh.

I would've laughed if I was in their place as well.

In the suddenness and panic from the situation, I had ended up sitting on the staircase, acting as if sitting on the stairs was completely normal.

I was totally chilling, or at least that's what I thought at that time.

And as for why she said the robbing line, I couldn't understand.

I coughed, trying my best to not let a blush appear on my cheeks.

What a great first impressi–

"Why were you sitting on the stairs, Aaron? Were the number of couches too low?" Nancy's mother continued with a faint smile playing on her lips.

Okay so not the first impression, I'm glad.

Beside her, I finally noticed her husband, who was around the same height as Nancy. Which is to say that he was very short.

He was wearing an expensive coat that seemed quite luxurious and speckled with gems.

It looked a complete contrast to his wife's low key but sophisticated attire.

And in all honesty, seeing such flamboyant clothes on a short midget looked more funny than attractive.

Just like on Earth, the average height of males was higher in Solaris compared to females.

The only difference was that in Solaris, the difference between averages wasn't as big as on Earth.

So Nancy's dad, who assume is her dad, seemed kind of short.

Anyways, If I apply the Earthly comparison for male and females, I don't think they should be THAT mad about me and Nancy.

And they also seem to already know me, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Chuckling, Nancy's mother slowly removed her heels and walked inside after locking the door.

I also got up to my feet, putting a hand in my pocket.

"I wasn't sitting down on the stairs, I was just picking up my hanky and slipped. It was hurting so I thought I might as well sit for a while and chill." I explained with an embarrassed smile, scratching the back of my head.

"Is that so? Watch your step, you're too young to be slipping so soon." Nancy's mother smiled and shared her words of wisdom.

The wisdom that I was unable to understand.

Either her humour was broken or I was too unsophisticated to understand it, as I didn't understand her robbery joke either.

But acting as if I understood it, I chuckled and slowly climbed down the stairs as the married couple took off their coats and hung them on the coat racks.

"Are you leaving?" the mother asked, while the father was busy looking at me.

"Yes," I nodded politely, and I wanted to add an honorific or something, like yes auntie. But calling such a fine specimen an auntie didn't sit right with me.

Maybe my luck was broken after coming to this world, or else why are all the married women so sexy?

First was Mrs Clint whose scent could even make a monk do unholy things, and then Nancy's mother.

If I had known Nancy's mother looked so fuckin hot, I would've attempted the famous 'ditch the gf, bag the mother' kinda strat.

Alas, I had already bagged the girl. As for the mother, I was tempted but also helpless.

I can't even eye any other woman until I deal with the two I already have.

"Hmm," Nancy's mother nodded, "Where's Nancy? Is she not dropping you?"

"It's okay, I told her that I can take a cab home."

Her expression changed, the amusement slipping as she frowned.

She turned her head to look at me, sighing, "What a daughter I have raised, she can't even drop her boyfriend home?"

I wanted to defend her that it's alright, but before I could, she shot another question.

"What's she doing upstairs that's so important?"

I gulped.

Sorry Nancy, I could only offer her my condolences as I mumbled, "Slee…ping."

"What?"

"Uhm, she's sleeping. She was tired so it's alright, I can go by myself."

Nancy's mother narrowed her eyes at the staircase before exhaling an exhausted breath, shifting back to look at me.

"My driver will drop you where you want to go, don't deny it." she said with a smile, "And are you sure you will go like… this? It's cold outside."

I blinked, as it took me a few moments to understand her question.

I don't know how I forget that I live in a snow filled city every single time.

A thin shirt and trousers was definitely not a pair of clothing that I can go out in, or I would be found on the roadside dying of hypothermia and turning into a popsicle.

So I had to go back up to Nancy's room and get her car keys, before coming down and getting my clothes out of her backseat.

Once dressed, I was finally ready to head out of Nancy's house.

The sky was already dark as the atmospheric chill had dipped down in temperature even more.

I don't know the exact temperature, but I was sure that I would've been shivering like mad if the driver hadn't turned on the car's heater.

And speaking of the driver, she was a simple calm woman, driving the car with practiced professionalism and no bullshit.

I just had to give her the address and there was no further interaction between us.

Thus, the ride back was quite smooth, at least until my phone rang again.

It was an unknown number, but thanks to the TrustCaller, I was able to see the name of the caller.

// Evangeline Faulkner //

Evangeline? Eva? Why was I getting a call from her number?

"Hey, uhh, Aaron. It's me Eva." Eva said with a panicky voice, her words sounding hurried as if something urgent had happened.

"What happened, Eva?"

"Uhh so…" She paused, "Can you come to the bar? Claire is throwing a bit of a fit, and she broke her phone as well. We are trying to control her but she is out of control.

I didn't know how else we could calm her down."

"..."

I was speechless, to say the least.

But… it was Claire in the question, how can I not go?

"Send me the address please."
