Chapter 215: The Escaping Dark-Gold Three-Headed Bat King
Noticing the change in Tang San's aura, the King of Slaughter slightly retracted his killing domain.
As the suffocating pressure lifted, Tang San's mind cleared, and he exhaled deeply.
The King of Slaughter's expression darkened as his gaze turned to the shadows nearby.
Luo Ling glanced in the same direction—there, a black-robed figure stood silently. It was Tang Hao.
For the past two years, Tang Hao had intermittently watched over his son from the shadows. That was why Luo Ling had always insisted Hu Liena hide her identity so carefully.
The King of Slaughter had clearly sensed Tang Hao's presence as well. He withdrew his domain not out of mercy, but out of prudence—if he didn't, the hidden Killing God might intervene.
Though confident in his own power, even he understood that caution was wiser than conflict.
A Killing God could enter the City of Slaughter freely—but once within the Hell Road, even gods had to rely on fate and strength.
As the rivers of blood flowed across the arena floor, they converged into a massive crimson sigil beneath Luo Ling and Hu Liena's feet—the shape of a bat.
The bat's eyes ignited with scarlet light, and the two vanished in an instant.
When Luo Ling's vision refocused, he found himself standing on a circular platform barely five meters wide.
Below them yawned a boundless abyss. Only a narrow path—barely wide enough for two feet—stretched forward into darkness.
"Xiao Ling, what do we do now?" Hu Liena asked softly, frowning.
"Just follow me," Luo Ling said casually. In the next instant, two gauzy spirit garments shimmered into existence over their bodies.
His third spirit skill—Desire Cloak.
Hu Liena instantly felt her body lighten.
"We're flying?" she asked, quickly realizing his intent.
"Why walk when you can fly?" Luo Ling grinned, taking her hand and gliding forward into the black void.
Within the Hell Road, a place stripped of all spirit power, Luo Ling—who could still use his skills—was nothing short of a walking anomaly.
His immense spiritual strength, rivaling that of a Titled Douluo, pierced the darkness. No threat could hide from his sight.
Barely five minutes into flight, Luo Ling sensed movement—a swarm of red bats speeding toward them.
The air filled with an ominous buzzing shriek.
Hu Liena's eyes widened at the mass of leathery wings ahead. Luo Ling, however, remained motionless, expression calm.
Hundreds of dark, razor-edged feathers materialized before him and shot forward in a storm.
The Raven Feathers collided with the swarm, cutting through them like blades. Corpses rained down as others spiraled madly in confusion.
The feathers' hallucinogenic toxins spread rapidly—bats brushed even slightly began attacking each other in frenzied chaos.
Hu Liena, flying behind him, added her own attacks—bursts of violet foxfire streaked through the swarm, burning through what remained.
Within moments, silence fell.
Luo Ling continued onward without pause. According to his memory, the next creature awaiting them should be the Dark-Gold Three-Headed Bat King.
Moments later, it appeared—a creature nearly four meters long with a ten-meter wingspan, looking identical to the red bats but three times their size, with three snarling heads.
Luo Ling's terrifying spiritual sense swept over the beast. The readings were clear: roughly the strength of a ten-thousand-year spirit beast—nothing worth fearing.
A crimson gleam flickered in his eyes, and he prepared to strike. But before he unleashed a single move, the Bat King suddenly shrieked and turned tail, vanishing into the endless dark.
Luo Ling froze mid-attack.
Had that creature… just run away?
He watched its retreating form disappear, blinking in mild disbelief. Then he chuckled, helplessly shaking his head.
Chasing it wasn't worth the trouble anyway. The Dark-Gold Three-Headed Bat King left no spirit ring, and its role even in the original timeline had been insignificant. There was nothing valuable to gain.
His real goal lay deeper—the Ten-Headed Blazing Sun Serpent.
"Nana, you've reached level sixty now, haven't you?" Luo Ling turned to ask.
"Yes." Hu Liena nodded.
"Any particular preference for your sixth spirit ring?"
"Something around thirty thousand years, preferably of the spiritual type," she said after thinking for a moment.
The standard limit for a sixth spirit ring was around twenty thousand years—but thanks to her strengthened physique from celestial herbs, she could handle more.
"How about adding a fire attribute to your martial spirit?" Luo Ling said with a smile.
"Fire?" Hu Liena blinked in surprise, unsure what he meant.
"I'm talking about evolving your martial spirit—strengthening it with an added fire element," Luo Ling explained, his gaze drifting deeper into the Hell Road.
According to the original accounts, that was where the Ten-Headed Blazing Sun Serpent dwelled—an ancient divine beast.
Ma Hongjun had absorbed its inner core to become the Ten-Headed Fire Phoenix. That proved the serpent's core possessed power comparable to celestial treasures.
Hu Liena's Demon Fox spirit already carried traces of fire—the first ability, Foxfire Command, was proof of that.
If she could obtain the serpent's inner core, her martial spirit could evolve into one of dual attributes: fire and spiritual energy—placing her on par with the realm's top bloodlines.
"My martial spirit… can evolve?" Hu Liena's eyes widened in hope, her heart pounding.
She had come to the City of Slaughter for one purpose—to grow strong enough to stand beside Luo Ling. Becoming a Killing God had seemed ambition enough, yet now he was offering her the chance to advance even further.
Excitement filled her, but after a moment she calmed, her tone turning soft yet serious.
"Xiao Ling, if there's something that can evolve a martial spirit, you should take it instead. Your power matters more."
Her warm, clear eyes looked at him with gentle sincerity.
For a brief moment, Luo Ling was caught off guard—then a small smile curved his lips, his expression softening.
"Silly girl. Even without evolving, your man is already the strongest under the heavens," he teased, tapping her lightly on the forehead.
In truth, the Ten-Headed Blazing Sun Serpent, while rare, was of little value to him.
His martial spirit was linked to divine power itself—something of that scale couldn't influence it. Even when he had refined celestial herbs, that had merely restored fragments of his spirit, not changed it.
As the Primordial faith continued to spread, every believer's worship fed his strength. The serpent's power would be more useful for someone else's growth.
Hu Liena pouted at his gentle smack but couldn't hide the happiness blooming in her smile.
"Alright," Luo Ling said softly. "Ahead lies a special beast. Slay it and consume its inner core—you'll gain your sixth spirit ring, and your martial spirit may very well evolve. I can't guarantee it, but even if it doesn't, you'll still gain a fire-type spirit ability."
"Think it over carefully."
