Chapter 13: Establishing a Club

Yotsuya Miko: "..."

She didn't react at first, but after thinking about it for a moment, she realized what "Two-tsuya Miko" meant.

Honestly, she could almost picture it in her head.

Miko composed herself, trying her best to calm her anxious heart.

Just as Yoru said.

Evil spirits were a dangerous existence. If she was too impetuous, she would die a miserable death.

Miko didn't want to be timid, but at the same time, she didn't want to die young.

At the very least, shouldn't I experience a sweet romance before I die?

"Sigh. The atmosphere on campus these days is really..."

Yoru glanced at Touma Kazusa, who was sound asleep on the desk next to him. Like an old man who had seen through the truths of the world, he shook his head and sighed.

"Sleeping right from the start of the morning... Sobu High has truly fallen."

Before Miko could say anything, Yoru took two exquisite small pillows out of his shoulder bag.

He gently placed one on Kazusa's desk, and the other on his own. He then slumped directly onto it, falling into a baby-like slumber in less than a second.

Seeing this, Miko couldn't help but look helpless.

But she could guess the reason.

The reason Yoru slept all day was probably because he was conducting "activities" all over Kyoto at night.

Thinking of this, Miko felt a sense of admiration.

If it were me... even if I had the ability to fight evil spirits like Yoru, would I have the courage to make the same choice as him?

Miko knew the terror of evil spirits intimately.

That was why she felt even more strongly that Yoru wasn't a normal person.

This guy... he's more of a monster than the monsters themselves.

The boring morning classes ended quickly.

When Yoru woke up and stretched, he discovered that at some point, Touma Kazusa next to him was already sleeping on the small pillow he had given her.

In this moment, he felt like a saint.

She gave him a can of room-temperature Pepsi (toilet cleaner).

He returned the favor with the pillow she needed most.

What do you call a modern version of repaying evil with kindness?

This is it.

"Check and see, am I emitting a light of supreme virtue?"

Hearing Yoru's sudden question, Miko was stunned for a moment, then replied cautiously.

"Light of virtue... isn't that something only monks have?"

"Never mind then."

Miko shook her head, ignoring Yoru's strange remarks.

She had figured it out.

If she seriously pondered every sentence Yoru said, sooner or later, she would become just as "abstract" as him.

"Here, for you."

Yoru took the cream bread and drink Miko handed him, shaking his head.

"Is this repayment for saving you? According to the standard tropes, shouldn't it be a bento box made by your own hands, with a heart drawn in ketchup hidden inside?"

Miko sighed helplessly, massaging her forehead. Not knowing how to respond to his outrageous comments, she simply turned and went back to her seat.

Just as Yoru picked up the cream bread and was about to open it, Hiratsuka Shizuka suddenly appeared at the classroom door and waved to him.

"Yoru, come here for a sec. I need to talk to you."

"Alrighty."

As Yoru stood up and walked out of the classroom, it was obvious that the students on both sides of the aisle backed away slightly as he passed.

After a day of fermentation, the rumors of him being a "dangerous individual" had spread thoroughly throughout Sobu High.

Public Intel #1: Yoru threatened a girl with a knife.

Public Intel #2: Yoru sleeps in class.

Public Intel #3: Hiratsuka Shizuka called Yoru to the office.

Conclusion:

"Is he getting punished?"

"No, no, probably expelled, right?"

"It can't be that bad? Expelled on the second day?"

"Maybe the rumors are true and he really brought a knife to school."

"I heard he brought a semi-automatic rifle."

"That's nonsense, it was clearly a revolver."

...

A blessing in disguise.

The name of the girl who played the "victim" in the rumors—Yotsuya Miko—had never appeared.

And no one really cared who the so-called victim was.

Everyone was just enjoying the drama and gossip.

Shizuka clearly hadn't expected that simply calling Yoru to the office would trigger such a chain reaction.

Once Yoru walked out of the classroom, an apologetic look appeared in her eyes, and she lowered her voice.

"Sorry, I..."

"It's fine, it's fine."

Yoru waved his hand, smiling nonchalantly.

"Cute female teachers can be forgiven."

"You!"

Hearing Yoru call her cute, a faint blush appeared on Shizuka's face. she clenched her right fist and waved it slightly, frowning.

"You're not allowed to talk to your teacher like that."

"Okay. So, what's up?"

"Let's talk in the office."

Once they were in the office, Shizuka subconsciously pulled a slender cigarette from her pocket, but then immediately put it down.

Because she saw Kirisu Mafuyu sitting nearby, staring at her with a gaze full of righteous scrutiny.

As a teacher, she really shouldn't smoke in front of students.

"I have a suggestion. Do you want to hear it?"

"Forming a club?"

"Eh? How did you know?"

Hearing Yoru voice her inner thoughts directly, Shizuka couldn't help but freeze.

"I knew it."

Yoru shrugged, looking reluctant, his tone resistant.

"Shizuka-sensei, I'm very busy every day. I don't have time for club activities, so let's forget it."

"That won't do."

Hearing Yoru refuse, Shizuka's idea—which she had originally intended to just tentatively suggest—instantly became firm.

"Only by forming a club and maintaining normal communication with other students can you turn around your reputation in the school. It'll also give you something to do besides sleeping all day."

"So troublesome."

Yoru sat opposite Shizuka, crossed his legs, spread his hands, and looked lazy.

"Setting aside whether I'm willing or not, forming a club requires at least five members."

Shizuka replied without thinking: "I will apply for a special exception from the school. Even if it's just you, you can establish a club."

"What about recruiting members later? I'm not exactly easy to get along with."

"All members must be approved by you personally."

"I'll need a clubroom too."

"I'll apply for that as well. The school will definitely agree."

"But if I have to do club activities I'm not interested in, that would be too boring. It would be torture."

"You can decide the nature of the club yourself. As long as it's not too outrageous, it's fine."

Yoru fired off questions rapidly, disrupting Shizuka's thought process and forcing her to answer immediately.

Watching this scene, a strange light flashed in Kirisu Mafuyu's eyes nearby.

"OK, deal."

Seeing the reluctant expression vanish from Yoru's face instantly, replaced by a calm agreement, Shizuka finally realized belatedly.

Did I...

Just fall into a trap?
