"You're up?" Kasteil asked, his voice still rough with sleep as he looked down at me.
He stood by the bed dressed up. He was almost ready to go to work. He just needed his shoes and maybe his bag. The sharp scent of his morning pheromones curling through the air like smoke. The last few days had been exhausting—volunteer shifts blending into one long blur of helping those in need. We'd finally reached the point where extra hands weren't required anymore, and I'd taken yesterday off just to breathe. It was a free day for all of us that volunteered. We had sought out the housings and most of them who needed medical care were in the hospital. Some of them's family had been contacted, especially those whose family was looking for them. Today, though, reality was calling us both back to work.
I had kids to tutor and Kasteil had his alpha kings duties to return to. I didn't think I would be back to work so quickly but I was glad.
