"I could leave the house for you," Kasteil said quickly. The words tumbled out of him. "You don't have to leave."
"I—"
His phone started ringing. The sound was sharp, cutting through the tension like a knife. We both flinched.
"Ignore it," Kasteil said, not looking away from me. His eyes never left my face.
"Let me go," I said, trying to step around him.
"Please, Holland," Kasteil said, moving to block me again. His voice was soft, pleading.
"I don't want to fight with you," I said. The words came out heavier than I intended. "I am tired, okay?"
"We don't have to fight," Kasteil said. "We could settle—"
His phone started ringing again. Louder this time. More insistent.
"I think you should answer that," I said, looking at his pocket.
"It's not important," he replied, shaking his head.
"Same thing you said not too long ago," I said, my voice sharp. Yeah and we had opened the door to see Roma.
