Finally the Arabian envoy arrived.
They came in a sleek black car—long, low, tinted windows reflecting the late-afternoon sun like obsidian. The vehicle rolled to a smooth stop at the arrival plaza, engine cutting off with a soft, expensive sigh. I'd been waiting with the small group assigned to me, two betas from protocol, three security aides, and a translator who looked more nervous than I felt.
Kasteil was supposed to be here beside me to welcome them but he was running late. I was told he would be here to welcome them and I would not be alone. I had sent someone to tell him about five minutes ago. But he wasn't here yet and I had to welcome them by myself.
I wasn't so sure. I want so sure I could do this. I wss alone because Kasteil was here yet and I didn't really know what to say what if I fuck this up?
